Re: Jason's 1992 G-Limited
Had a dyno done a week ago, results were poor to say the least. There's a surprisingly large amount of torque down low, even though the velocity stacks are always open.
Power & Torque:
Power & AFR:
Most of the problem is the power curve. The turbo ecu expects the turbo cam curve which is relatively flat, compared to the current cam which has high lift. So as the power goes up, the AFR gets richer. That's my theory, some proper engine tuners might shed some light on the subject.

The problem is that you are running a TURBO ECU with no Turbo Add a turbo and see what happens
It a no brainier really.

Re: Jason's 1992 G-Limited
jeez, that'd make me switch to the proper ecu quick smart!
personally i'd never run the turbo ecu on an n/a due to the compression differences and what not. 3sge's and 3sgte's both require quite different fueling and ignition requirements, i've personally seen a 3sgte run on a 3sge ecu blow the piston ringlands because of this.
im sure someone who knows alot more will explain things better then i can

AFM mod time.
The GTE ECU runs pig rich from as much as 10mm/hg of vacuum.

Re: Jason's 1992 G-Limited
Initially, it was to future proof the engine for the supercharger after the engine rebuild. Reason for wanting a supercharger is because turbos are too common, and I like the whine of a belt-driven pump (I loved the supercharged AW I used to have). All I can say is that I am working on it (the ecu problem that is).Malcolm wrote:I don't get it. Why are you using the 3sgte ECU?

Re: Jason's 1992 G-Limited
think ive got a spare one if you want to try it? unless maybe graham has one, hes closer.
it may actually feel better under throttle. my NA was only running at around 80kw too i think. but that was a gen 1.
If youre planning on a supercharger and other mods, wont you want a standalone ECU anyway?

Re: Jason's 1992 G-Limited
Still looking at my options about the ecu and what to get, but right now those plans are after it's got a compliance/wof/reg. It hasn't been driven since the dyno run in mid June. Once it's got a wof, then I'll sort it out. Need lots of money too, I'm budgeting $1500 for the compliance and extras.

Re: Jason's 1992 G-Limited
Quick update, a couple of weeks ago I took the radiator out to replace the coolant hoses, also swapped the broken a/c fan for a spare off the old turbo.
Finally got round to fixing the sump leak yesterday, did an oil change at the same time (even though I've only done about 400kms, it was already black). Took me half an hour just to find the 4 bolts hidden next to the flywheel inspection hole. Used high temp RTV (red stuff), and went back together much quicker.
Also took the opportunity to measure the exhaust flanges so I could make an adapter plate to fit the Gen 2 na muffler+cat to the Gen 3 middle pipe. Found out they are exactly the same, so I bolted it straight on with the old gasket. It's much quieter now, don't think I will get pulled up for a loud exhaust now (there's still the no wof/reg issue which I will get round to when I have the money). Tip: do this on a hoist or pit, not on the concrete on jackstands like I did (sore shoulders now) .

Re: Jason's 1992 G-Limited
Took my car for a warrant of fitness on Thursday in preparation for the compliance and apart from a new wiper blade it passed . Next stop is a 260 km dash and rerun the speedo wires as they keep playing up. Once the money presents itself, compliance will be done. I'm starting to get excited now .

Re: Jason's 1992 G-Limited
Quick update, EssDub is getting a new shell and will be swapping all the automatic parts into it. Once he is done I am buying the old shell with a live rego. Then a complete swap of all the parts in the silver car will go into the shell to make a complete car that's road legal .
