I installed a small aerial isolation switch on both my cars to preserve them from breaking. With a USB input its not very often I even use radio amymore.

I think I will wire up the old remote locking switch to the headunit. Just need more wire.

Also finished the engine lid gas strut brackets.

Flip strut around. Think you want them with shaft on downside as it keeps seal lubricated.

My brother made me some gear shifter bearings from Phosphor Bronze. Current rubber ones are worn. I will have to remove the gear linkage cables but they are proving hard to remove the clips off the gearbox.



I might be able to get some spherical bearings instead. Just need to size them correctly as they aren't the right size.

Tasty. That reminds me, I need to do the square bush on mine as well as I haven't done that yet.

Use a pair of polygrips so you can wiggle them side to side and they usually come out OK.

Tried that. No room to grip them. I think I will lift the car and tap them out with a screwdriver and hammer. Just pulled a 3S-GTE out of an MR2 today so I figured it out.

EDIT: I don't have polygrips but they would work. I just have a pair of normal pliers. Can't get the right angle on clips.

Could always break clip off then pull whole lever from trans and work on clip plus bush on bench. Need to do this anyway if rotating or replacing inner brass bush. One nut under rubber boot the wiggle assembly off. I can send pics if required.

Just received a full set of OEM Bilstein struts with new nuts and bolts. Thanks Toyota.

Decided to install the new struts today.

Old vs New


This shows how worn the existing struts were. I fully compressed the piston and only 2 extended back but were very slow. Took a hour to extend right back.

Also replaced the worn bush. Its not really doing its job. The new one binds up in 1st gear but I will be replacing that with a sphereical bearing to stop that.

I have been slowly developing custom front brake duct intakes that go in place of the spot lights. I honestly have no idea on how affective they will be but seeing as I have no spot lights I thought I'd give it a go. Even if it's just visual, I will have learnt how to create fiberglass moulds and parts. I will need to figure out the best way to run the pipe and probably have to modify the stone covers behind the discs.

Taped up the bumper to use as the first mould, filled with expandable foam.



Filled with foam then shaped with kraft knife and sandpaper. I am at the point where I am covering it with bogg and reshaping it to get a smooth surface for paint and wax. Then I will create a mould from this and make parts from it. Need to make the other side too.

Leather shoe dye is best to use on seats. Get one of those bottles which have the foam applicator on the top. Have seats sit in a nice sunny spot then work the dye into the cracks with the applicator. Comes out great and can use on steering wheel + gear shift & boot.

I finally went ahead with your suggestion, the Kiwi liquid polish worked great. Buff it with a cloth and no residue left so no stains on my clothes. Thanks for the idea Jim.

Installed new spherical bearings into the shifter cables.

New bearing, solid bush(don't use these, they don't work), solid bush removal tool. All made by my brother.



New bearings pressed in. Much better feel in the gear shifter now.

Glad you tried the shoe polish trick as it works great. Spherical bearings are the way to go for replacement shift bush's. Did ou manage to either replace or rotate the square brass bush?
