I must admit James it would be kinda fun to drop my SW's engine into an iQ3 and end up with a sleeper that can get to 100kmh in under 3 seconds instead of 13.  It would weigh less than an AW and rock in there at close to 600hp per tonne, like a 2012 Bugatti Veyron. Then iQ3 could stand for "insanely Quick, 3 seconds to 100kmh".

Even so I'm not sure I'd want to be seen behind the wheel... :P

Anyway by the time it got to 200kmh it'd be a death-trap thanks to the aero. Unlike the SW which sits perfectly SWeet. You'd have to fit a bloody great wing to it like a WRC car, and that would just encourage everyone to take you on (he he).

Would be pretty darned funny though. (Do it, someone...)

Aston Martin did a version of the IQ too. It was a strange way to get around overall fleet average emissions regulations.
Mechanically it was the same though. (72kw)

Ha ha wow.

Well I just posted on Tetsuya Tada's facebook page (he was in charge of the new 86 project).

Tada-san, thank you so much for giving us the 86. It's brilliant in so many ways. Stunning lines, handling on a twisty back road that's as much fun as driving an AW11. Driver's controls all in perfect position, everything at your finger tips. And the GT is such a nice place to be.
As the President of the MR2 Owners Club of New Zealand I do have one thing to ask of you though, if I may. Please ensure that if Toyota produce a successor to the MR2, that it is a Mid engine Rear wheel drive 2 seater. Because that is the brilliance of the MR2.
Someone took a bunch of Corolla bits and moved them to the back of the car, thereby producing one of the greatest mid engined sports cars ever built. The AW11 is a true classic and if set up right and driven by someone who understands it, still right up there with the best. Even with the new 86. I own both, as well as an SW20 turbo and a Caldina GT4. I love these Toyotas.
Please Tada-san, make sure that any new MR2 is a Mid engine, Rear wheel drive, 2 seater. It is that layout that makes the MR2 so great to drive. Keep the brilliance of the MR2 alive. Your 86 is a tribute to the brilliance of the older 86. It is a success because it is a fitting sucessor, another true stroke of genius. Please be sure to have Toyota show the same respect for the MR2. Thank you Tada-san. =)

I got a very quick response from him: Yes indeed ‼︎

Here's hoping eh?

I'm going to sticky this topic as I want to see just what the new MR2 actually turns out to be...

Anyone find out the reality, post it here!

OK well here's another one that's surfaced. Might just be click-bait, dunno, but if a new MR2 was anything like this I'd be stoked to see them on the road.
300HP mid engine 1600cc turbo hybrid 2 seater. That would be SWeet.
