MR2 Ben Fitment Questions

Post by GlanzaAtHeart »

Hey everyone,

I am looking at ordering some body parts from MR2 Ben, and I've heard some good and bad feedback on their fitment.

Does anyone have anything from them and can give some feedback? Don't wanna spend a couple hundred ordering fibreglass parts and waiting weeks to ship, only for them not to fit.

Would appreciate it, thanks everyone.

I guess rule of thumb on most aftermarket parts like these is you will expect them not to fit perfectly and have to do work to get them fitting better.

Which parts are you looking at?
1990 SW20 MR2 G-Limited (GEN4 3SGTE Installed)
2000 AE111R Corolla Wagon NZ New Daily
1996 AE101R Corolla Sprint NZ New Selling Soon
1990 EP81 Starlet XL (Sold)
1990 EE90 Corolla XL (Sold)

I'm looking at getting the TOMS style air scoop, and then possibly some border style side skirts too.

Aftermarket is generally expected not to have perfect fitment, but I expect it to fit about 95%, and have to wiggle that 5% out.

Buying the body kit is the cheap part.

Anything that says Style in the name is always going to be a problem. But as you expect things to not be perfect you know what you are getting into. Like Al says, buying the part is the cheap bit. Getting it fitted will be an expensive exercise if you farm that out to a body shop.

When everything was running, i.e. couriers etc. I managed to get everything here within 2 weeks. I bought both side TOMS air scoop for my project as well from them. They are built actually pretty solid and fitment was not an issue (mind you I have not finished installing them, just test fitted and they are good). I am in the process of modifying them so that they do not disturb the airflow in the engine bay.

Good luck with the shipment etc., I think that is where things could be a bit dicey under the current lockdown scenario

Thanks for the info. I am not worried if it takes 3-4 weeks. Gives me more time for more repairs. :D

Thanks for the help! I'll probably go ahead with getting that TOMS scoop. Quick question - They want 120 quid just to ship it here. Did you pay that? Or go another route?

Hi mate, I bought a few other bits for the MR2 in London. I had them ship it to my contact in London who then consolidated everything for me. I got Door to Door Freight Services. Worked out cheaper this way as it was all boxed up as one shipment
