Valuation of my MR2 for insurance purposes

Post by mthomas »

Hi
I have a 1990 MR2 SW20 manual in very good condition. It has done 150,000kms and I am the 2nd owner. I have had it for 27 years this year and as you can see - it has done low mileage.
It is also NZ new and it is all original.
It is not a turbo.
It runs beautifully.

Could anyone help me with the value of it for insurance purposes ?

For insurance it's best to get a written evaluation. Otherwise they may change their mind if you have to claim. I just had a detailed one on my car. And if you want to PM me I'll send you the guys contact details. :D

I got tired of chasing valuations every two years on my 98 GT that the insurance company depreciated by 2.5k every year while premiums remained the same. Switched to Swann and had an agreed amount with no reductions and first right to buy back. Premiums dropped in half as well.

I reckon around $7000-$8000 for your car based on your description. This is assuming the paint and interior is in good condition and doesn't need any maintenance like cam belt, water pump, clutch etc soon.

A tidy turbo model with similar mileage went for $11,000 recently and tidy automatic G Limited's seem to be around the $5000-$6000 mark.
