Forged Piston Question

Post by Benckj »

Spotted these on TM today and thought I might place bid if they would work in my gen 3. Not something I'm planning to install anytime soon but if I could get a decent price I'd save for when an engine build is on the cards.

Does anyone know if these are an upgrade for my 98 Gen 3 3sgte? I know that the rev 3+ models had a different oil ring and lower compression but not sure if anything else changed. Can you tell if rods are stock or forged from pics?

Well being a USA brand they only make it for the GEN2 3SGTE and these are 8.0 compression ratio so lower than a stock GEN3 but can support more boost but you'll get less response.

For rings, you would need to use what the pistons need rather than what the block uses.
Rods look stock. Most aftermarket rods are not cast.

Buy pistons to suit the engine, not rebuild the engine to suit the pistons.

You wouldn't want 1mm overbore pistons, why take a lot more meat out of block than you need to? Wossner also do 0.25 and 0.5mm overbore pistons. Rods in the pics are standard toyota rods, not aftermarket.

I have a set of brand new Forged pistons for a 3SGE Beams laying around.. Still in box! I'll find the photos shortly.
originally purchased for the rallycar, but with a new donk going in the hole, they're now surplus to requirements.

These will not fit the GEN3 3SGTE rods. The wrist pin is far smaller on the BEAMS engines. They will only fit the GEN4 3SGTE but then putting forged pistons in a GEN4 without upgrading the rods is pointless as adding boost will just bend them.
Perfect for an NA setup though.

Hello, do you still have these by any chance?

Amazing! Figured a 5 yr old post didn’t have a snow balls chance in hell surviving. Guess the forum is worth it’s weight in steel, forged that is.

And even more amazing that you still have them after all this time!

Unfortunately we need 0.5mm oversize pistons in a hurry and these are standard bore? I do not suppose you know of any around?

We still have one block to try that may possibly be in good nick when we get it out but that will be a future project so we could still be interested in these if you want to part with them.

The bore Diameter is as per the spec sheet, I believe they are a standard bore though. (3.386' works out around 86mm
Pretty sure we have a standard Beams Block hanging around too.
