Oil Pressure Tap thread- Gen 3

Post by Benckj »

This summer I'd like to install an oil pressure sensor on the gen 3 engine. Sensor will be connected into my MS EMS and displayed on my gauge display. Will also use the instrument for warnings and protection once I get a handle on pressure accuracy and how to program MS option.

To save me pulling the available pressure plugs near oil filter can someone tell me which best port to use and possibly the thread pitch? Will probably order either a 150 or 200psi sensor which comes in 1/8NPT. Pics attached of engine & display.

Also may install sensor on fuel pressure even though I have gauge in engine bay. Would be nice to see what readings are while driving and log data.

Either port works. They go into the same part of the sump. They are 3/8 BSP. Thanks to GlanzaAtHeart.

Thanks for that GD11. I’ll order up the sensors now and start for planning my I/O.

This might be a good unit to use. Has both temp and pressure in one unit. 10 BAR pressure.

You will need this plug to wire it in.

Thx but I’ll probably go Chinese for a 150psi sensor at $16 incl connector pigtail & shipping. Have used these in the past and found them to be very good. Haven’t had a dud yet.

Those ports are TIGHT.

Like rattle gun couldn't get them off tight.

Just a heads up around the sensor - I have a autogauge oil pressure sender. These are pretty much chinese units.

It hits the suspension brace that is near these ports. It will depend port you put it in. The left hand port on the diagram it wouldn't fit (too big) and the right hand one I couldn't get a power bar in, so I went with middle.

So watch out on sizing of the sender.

Good point regarding access and removing port. May need to Chuck car on ramps and have a look.

How big is the unit you are looking at? Thomas's is quite large vs the one I linked.

This is my unit:

If you use a chinese unit they're most likely the same.

This is mine.

The one I’d get is much smaller and has 3 wires. I’ll post a pic when I’m back at work PC.
