Fitting later model headlights to early model car.

Post by 001SPYDER »

So I've recently purchased a later model Spyder as a doner car for my 2000 Spyder. Some parts will swap right over but the headlights need some additional wiring. Have any other members here done this already? If so how did you source the wiring? I have found online a place in the US but looking at $63 nz dollars so definitely wondering if there are other local alternatives. Thanks

This is the harness required.

That's not a bad price for a plug n play harness. Having a sparkie do it would likely cost you more. You could diy and save a little but piecing together the right connectors etc. would take time.
Could you cut the plugs off from the donor car?

Yes Ivor that's a great idea in cutting of the donor plugs and breaking out the soldering iron, but the three pin plug shown mimics the older headlight
bulb plugging into the original harness. that's the plug Im not sure where to source locally.

Why not solder the face-lift headlights plugs directly into your car's harness (i.e. cut off the existing H4 plug)?

Well that plan didn't pan out at all. more down to lack of time than willingness. Still going to go ahead with the fitting he facelift lights but after cleaning up the outside of the lenses, both headlights are cloudy/yellowish. So in for a penny in for a pound as the saying goes, now looking at pealing of the outers and painting out the chrome, re assembling then paying some dollars to a local guy who refurbishes the plastic then clear coats. Just another job to tick off the list.

Those headlight lenses can be a pain to get clear as they tend to get cloudy also from the inside not just outside.
