A good test is normally if the gear lever moves but the gear linkages on the gearbox do not then you've got worn external parts. The car is 34 years old and we do know they do wear.

These are what I recommend. This was made by one of our club members.

This is the square bush but you can reuse the original one of the other sides are not worn.

If needed I can get you the OEM parts that are still available for a bit cheaper than buying from the USA or NZ.

Do mention all these wear parts to them. The gearbox might be fine but the external parts make it feel like it isn't.
Just based on experience. :D

In my order of priorities to obtain better shifts;
1/ Change trans oil to Redline LWSP.
2/ Upgrade shift bearings to spherical bearings.
3/ Rotate square bush and lubricate assembly.
4/ Check & replace firewall motor mounts. Prefer Kirks poly bush.
5/ Install drop plate and short shifter on console shifter. Adjust and lubricate all moving parts.

Lubricating the square bush makes it pick up dirt and wear it out faster. Not recommended.

There is a local supplier here but you can buy it online.

If you go see RPM Imports at the workshop on Fisk Street they can help. Do Email them first to ensure they are OK for you to collect once paid.
You probably only need one of the big 3.75litre bottles.
