Club Lotus Race Day

Race day with Club Lotus, November 23.

Yet another awesome day run by Club Lotus.

There was a huge turnout with 35 cars of various flavours: Lotus Elise, Esprit, and Sevens; Ford Cortinas, Escorts, and Cobras; a Triumph; a Fraser; an S2000; as well as two supercharged AW11s, three SW20s, and two SW20s spectating.

The organisers managed to get a flow going, with six groups on a rotational basis.  We did four lap sprint races with five second gaps between cars.  The first half of the day was a little damp (bloody wet), with a paddle or an outboard motor being a useful item down the straight.  By lunchtime it was looking grim and proving to be not very enjoyable, so we shot off for kebabs and a look through town

An hour later we were back at the track as the rain had dissipated and the track was starting to dry.  We got in some good runs in the afternoon as the track dried, and everyone left with smiles on their faces.  There were no major incidents, but plenty of on-track acrobatics as people found the puddles of water or pushed it too hard.

Colin Meadows did record a 46 second lap as I went for a spin (not literally) in his passenger seat.  It was also good to see Andys car there as well.  The newer racers amongst us spent a lot of time drooling over their cars between races.

I will keep you advised of dates for events as they come to hand and I look forward to meeting more of you at the track next year!
