And agreed value was $2,500.. Still think I got a **** deal because it was pouring down with rain that day and so I couldn't pull out my list of things to check. Idled okay, no overheating, exhaust okay, but couldn't check coolant and fluids and I made the stupid mistake of not asking about cambelt change..

that sucks, I think I will have to get clarification from my insurance company.. the cars in decent condition anyway, all electrics go (except the radio antenna which I didn't test but the seller did say he used the radio quite a bit), one I wanted before mine went for $2850+/- on trade me and it had driver door/stereo issues and the guy replaced the windscreen..

This car was parked in Ellerslie when an inattentive driver ploughed into the back of it.

It was a sweet running 1992 targa top with a red top beams engine. Other upgrades- leather interior, rev3 tailights, .
We were fully insured with AMI with an agreed value of $9k. As others have already noted "agreed" means nothing.
Of course AMI's valuer only thinks it's worth $4.5k

Can anyone recommend a valuer? So we can dispute this.

I'll post more pics in the parts section for the wreck

Bugger! I remember that car too... was in such awesome condition.

I cannot understand why they wont pay the agreed value when your premiums are based on it? I would fight it.

Hey Charlie,

I used to work in the insurance industry. Specifically Fraud investigations but have experience and knowledge in underwriting and claim settlements. If you're having trouble negotiating a desirable result with your insurer, feel free to slide into my PMs with your number and happy to have a chat.

Rule 1 Never post in anger

Having now actually read my policy it's not a "Agreed Value" figure it's a "Sum Insured".
My bad. AMI have performed as my policy requires and they answered the phone.

"Sum Insured" means that figure or current market value whichever is the lower.

I couldn't get the insurance I wanted for this car, without jumping through a lot of hoops.
The mainstream insurers aren't setup to cater to people like myself.
I don't expect my car to depreciate, I am keeping it long term, investing in it.

Classic cover or swan insurance would have suited me more. I should have shopped around more.

MR2's are inexpensive sports cars that's one of the reasons I like them.

If you have a good one, and you have improved and rebuilt it, it's worth more to you than it's market value.

I think there is a false perception that if its a mass market 90's japanese car, it's only worth X,
no-one is saying that about a valiant or a land rover or a commodore, they were all common.
