SARD MC8
Most people probably know about the SARD MC8 and the MC8R/MC897R. This car was developed for Le Mans and other racing classes but never did that well. Effectively it's an SW20 body that's been chopped and lengthened at the back to fit a 1UZFE 4.0 V8 into it.
There are photos floating around of the the single homologation road car and the race cars. However not many details about the road car are easy to find.
Some newer and more detailed photos now exist.
YouTube video of a guy talking about the car, he gets a few things wrong but nothing major. https://youtu.be/3uL-JHzmeYA
And a link to the photos on their own.

The front end and engine bay shots are quite interesting as is the shot from underneath.

Re: SARD MC8
From some angles it looks like NSX rather than a stretch MR2. Wonder if it had any more leg room?

Re: SARD MC8
I'd say it wouldn't be any different to a standard SW20 inside. They didn't change that part of the chassis. Just around the front wheels and the rear behind the strut towers. You can see the rear strut towers are still there but no suspension installed.

Re: SARD MC8
some of the engineering looks pretty nasty though...the gussets on the front strut brace look pretty bad. and the inner guards look like an afterthought...
then there is the engine coolant pipes where they leave the oem ones under the tub to go up the front of the engine...couple of right angles with joiners and hose clips. could have just gone to supercheap or something and found something off the shelf that looks close instead....

Re: SARD MC8
When you have to make a one off homologation car to allow your real race cars to race you wouldn't want to spend too much time or money making it perfect. But you are right, it's very rough and looks thrown together.
I'd be curious to see how the Toyota GT-ONE, Porsche GT1 and Mercedes CLK GTR road cars were put together. I think the Porsche and Mercedes were more than one off cars but the Toyota GT-ONE was a one off. Thinking about it though, the MC8 was a chopped up SW20 where the other cars I mention are built from the ground up specifically for racing.

Re: SARD MC8
if your putting it together in a workshop next to the GT cars, plenty of jigs and parts handy, they probably had hoses and stuff made up... the road car version(which turned up for sale again recently) could have had the same parts added. If I was building a bespoke race car. Id be more particular about how it went together the first time. repairs during the season "20 foot rule" applies though yeah????
though some of that looks nasty at about 20 feet now...headlight surrounds. rear wing, proper investment if you could get to own it, but would need a proper rebuild to look tight and cool again

Re: SARD MC8
Here are some of the later model MC8. I'm not 100% sure what this road version was made for as the white one was build for GT1 rules.
This is it before it was pulled apart. JZA80 front brakes. A bit sad to see it this way.

Re: SARD MC8
On the topic of the Sard MC8 and its various versions, I'd like to point out Sard also did a bodykit called the MC4 which is seldom seen or even known of nowadays. I'm thinking of trying to replicate the front bumper and maybe even the wing from the non GT-II version (1st image)
Not sure what people think of the GT-II version with the lower wing and widened rear fenders, but I figured I may as well post it. Looks off for me, but it's of its age. Inspired more by the higher tech version which we see in Black in that wreck yard a couple posts up. + I really like the retro fogs in the first version.

Re: SARD MC8
I'm digging the one with the Tri's
The second one looks half cooked, it would suit an extended wide body kit, otherwise looks like someone just had the rear piece and nothing else. But like what they started, would like to have seen more kits like that
