Re: Auckland Roads
I thought because of traffic, Aucklanders can only do about 3.6km/h anyway

Re: Auckland Roads
Given the rate at which road deaths in Auckland have been increasing, maybe a better question would be: if something isn't done about it, will there be any Aucklanders left to drive on the roads?

Re: Auckland Roads
Deaths from speeding don't happen because people adhering to the speed limit crash. Deaths from speeding happen because people NOT adhering to the speed limit crash.
So how is it that slowing down all the people that pretty-much adhere to the speed limit will reduce the number of speed-related crashes?
Reducing the speed limit will not prevent kids who are driving stolen cars, or idiots on P, or drunk drivers, from driving pedal to the metal with no regard for others while trying to evade arrest. And crashing. And being killed. Or killing others. If you looked into the majority of speed-related deaths on Auckland roads (officially 28 in 2017) you'd likely find most of them were caused by those kind of idiots. Lowering the speed limit will NOT change their behaviour one bit.
In my opinion reducing the speed limit in the CBD or in areas where there is a lot of pedestrian traffic makes sense. But I don't see how such widespread changes will really help anyone. Unless your chosen means of transport is an e-scooter and you want all the cars around traveling the same speed as you?

I don't understand the law regards these things either. These are powered wheeled vehicles legally allowed to mix it up with cars on suburban streets, yet you don't need an understanding of the road code (aka a license) or even a helmet to use one? With their tiny wheels they only need to hit a small stone, or get the speed wobbles going down-hill, to give someone a nasty injury.

Yeah some of our laws are real clever...
