Auto Electrician Auckland area

Post by Barark »

Do we have an Auckland auto electrician in the club?
I got a new JOB!!!
Maybe someone who works for beers, and doesn't mind a few weekends worth of work?

I just acquired a nice condition instrument cluster for an Aw11 and want to do some funky ideas to it, replacement gauges and led lighting.
Might need to sit down with someone and go over:
- do we need to start cluster from scratch
- details of products
- weather or not it needs new inputs
- i wan't to add 2 more gauges as well as the originals.

Happy to supply drinks or food for all productive meetings, starting late May.

I'm not an auto electrician, but I'm always interested in doing the odd bit of custom work, especially this kind of thing. If you wanted to be a bit more specific about what you want I can give you an idea of what I think it would cost and how long it would take

I still haven't settled on a final design, weather i just want to change all the measurement gauges and leave the speedo and revs alone or to do a full on every gauge conversion... I am happy if you have the skills to help!

I want to make sure i have everything covered. you might see a pattern with these designs, but it will give you a loose idea of what i am thinking.

on further thought i'm tempted to not mess up the second hand cluster and try to work from scratch.

Maybe get some input from what everyone thinks makes a great instrument cluster.

Personally i love as much info as i can get.
- Needs to show revs
- Needs to show speed
- Fuel is always important
- I wish to keep oil pressure and temp gauges
- Battery gauge i like too
so that so far is the original 2 big 4 small.
things i would like to look into is:
- Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge
- Maybe if i and feeling rich a tire pressure gauge.

Advice and thoughts welcome

So you're looking to replace all the gauges with aftermarket ones and build a whole new cluster? Sorta like this perhaps? http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic ... 8&start=20" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (you'll need to be a Toyspeed member to view). Did you just want someone to do the electrical work, or the whole lot including fabrication, mounting etc?

There was another GP for a whole SW20 gauge cluster in the US forums much like the example given. It may be worth doing a little research on availability on what been done before starting from scratch.

Couple of points for consideration;
> incorporate a heads up display for essential gauges.
> TPMS is not as expensive as you think (~$150). I have one on each of my cars.
> allow for expansion in case new gauges, etc are added. Digital screen is good for future proofing.

Looking forward to what you come up with.
