Heads up DAsh Display
A heads up digital dash display is a really cool accessory and you don't need to take your eyes off the road. In case your wondering like I am does this one work with an SW20

The SW20 doesn't have OBDII. The ZZW30 does though.

Re: Heads up DAsh Display
I agree Heads Up is a great way to go.
There is no reason why you cannot wire in and use any of the head up displays.
But we are restricted to what can be displayed, due to, we only have OBD1 socket.
So you could go with just a basic one. I think from around $49nz Check out Ebay before you buy local.
I am looking into what is available on the data stream on our OBD1 circuit. Then if possible hooking up and seeing what happens.
The other issue would be getting a lead long enough to reach to the back of the car anyway, even if we did have OBD11.

Re: Heads up DAsh Display
OBD1 is too old to have a proper data stream, and I don't think SW20's even had it back then when they were built. If they did, they only put out error codes, and not the huge amount of data about what the engine was doing.clawnz wrote:I am looking into what is available on the data stream on our OBD1 circuit. I did a quick google, and apparently only 1996+ SW20's had OBD2. Reference: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/20-mr ... rsion.html.

Re: Heads up DAsh Display
That's interesting as the JDM ECU part number is the same from 11/93 all the way up to the end of production in 08/99. OBDII has a very different port compared to OBDI and I know for a fact the GEN5 still uses the OBDI diagnostics port in the engine bay. Plus that comment comes from someone in America and they didn't get SW20s in 1996.

Re: Heads up DAsh Display
Yeah, I thought that OBD2 on a SW was weird, because the ecu is the same for all SW gen 3 turbos.

Re: Heads up DAsh Display
I've got a 98GT and diag port is the same as earlier models. No OBDII installed on any SW20 as far as I'm aware.
BTW I tried using the HU function on my tablet that communicates with EMS. It was very hard to get a screen picture display due to shape of SW dash and angle of glass. To improve it would also need a reflective film to aid which may not be desirable or even legal to have.

Re: Heads up DAsh Display
I would hate a HUD in a car as I find any reflection from the dash massively annoying. In fact I'd love to flock 'em all!
I like to see where I'm going as totally unimpeded as possible. But that's just me...

Maybe not be so bad during the day, but at night could be, very annoying.
I know at night in the boat, when under way, the last thing I need is any light invasion upsetting my night vision, as it takes a few mins to readjust to the dark.
And glare at night in a car is no different in many ways.
Try using main beam in dense fog! Using dipped headlights cuts reflected glare, allowing you to see further.
I will let you know how I feel after I have had a play. Remember they do come with a off s/w, so you do not have to have it on all the time.

I find that the tachometer doesn't go high enough for the 2ZZ on these and I don't know how fast they react either.
