Power Steering Pump brushes
Anybody found anywhere to get these?
Toyota Auckland have just told me they only list complete pump.
Not sure what or who to try next.

Re: Power Steering Pump brushes
Have you removed the current ones and checked they are still usable? Maybe you can clean them up, give them a resurface and put them back in. These pumps are pretty resilient and don't often stop working. It's usually the system rather than the pump as you have found out on blue.

Re: Power Steering Pump brushes
I've never cracked one open but I assume if you rip them out and try people like ashdown ingram (auto-sparky suppliers) they'll be able to match some brushes that at worst will require some filing

Mine are fine.
I had a guy come who was going to buy my spare pump. But sounds like he only needs brushes.
He lives in Tasmania. And was quoted $200au for a set. So I started digging around.
Called A.E.S. in Henderson, He had a good laugh, and said good luck with that!

Re: Power Steering Pump brushes
Update:
I ran into a brick wall on this one as far as New Zealand goes.
As they were not for me I lost some interest after spending a few hours on the phone. Auckland Toyota said there is only one listing and that is for the whole pump. No spares/parts. Zero listings. The guys in East Tamaki only do trade, so were no help. Told me to go the likes of Repco. Who could find zero listed any where like them.
Passed all this onto the guy in Tasmania.
Oh! Hello!
He has the part number for them from Japan.
and they will be delivered in 5days.
Phil can you put this part number somewhere safe?
Power Steering pump brushes. Part no 89655 17011
Which sounds like a deal, instead of having to buy a whole new pump.

Re: Power Steering Pump brushes
Wonder if an online shop like Rockauto would have? They seem to carry lots of bits which are hard to find elsewhere.
I’m still with Phil on this one though. Brushes last forever and most problems are with relay, ecu, Pump, etc.

Re: Power Steering Pump brushes
So yes this part number is for the SW20 power steering pump for 1993/11-. 89655-17010 is for 1989/12-1993/11clawnz wrote:Part no 89655 17011

And for future reference, here is the website I use for searching parts. It works most of the time for common factory fitted stuff but doesn't always show some parts like dealer options. Part numbers get updated too.

Re: Power Steering Pump brushes
Thanks Phil.
I had a word with Steve at Toyota parts.
The issue it seems, is that the brushes are listed on another page, to the pump.
He found it after giving him the part No.
Now I can tell you there are 6 in NZ, not sure this is six sets or six brushes.
They are $70nz each.
USA seems to list them for $22us each.

Re: Power Steering Pump brushes
That will be each. Which is a lot for something that potentially won't fix the issue.clawnz wrote:Thanks Phil.

It can be hard navigating parts diagrams if you aren't sure where to look. And these cars being older, not many Toyota parts guys know them. Even after 9 years of owning my car I still only know 80% of the diagrams for this one model of car.

HI GUys
Brushes are always sold as a pair or Set. You have to replace them both or all when you do the job . So the 6 you see will be 6 sets/pairs. Don't forget if your doing brushes to skim the commutator as well or the brushes wont bed properly and you will get arcing. If you have a growler you can check the comm as well make sure there are no short circuit windings that are causing your problem.
