Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
I put together a bit of a video slideshow of the build. I had heaps of people asking for details on FB groups. But I didn't take videos and although I posted the forum link. I'm not sure if they can read?
Next update on the 8th when I am booked for a dyno tune!!!
Exciting!!

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Right, quick update. Wednesday was Dyno day!!
Dramas are very common on the dyno apparantly.... And although I did my best to make sure everything was ready. I could not escape this fact.
Started early and headed south for the 2hr drive..... Firstly my car trailer wheel bearing let go! And I had to go get a new hire trailer... 2hr delay getting there.
Finally on the dyno. A few hours of tweaks getting the fuel, timing and ignition right. Unfortunately we couldn't get the full tune or any power runs because my clutch let go at 320ftlbs. Which we made pretty quickly.
Which is good news I guess? (Torque monster apparantly) Also making 3psi @2000rpm So we have the makings of quite a weapon here. Engine seems to run well and is strong. Only concern is the ignition system had a few mis fires. So we will probably upgrade to coil packs also so we can run more boost.
And while I have the engine and box back out again.... (Which I am not happy about, but could have been worse I guess) I may as well fit my new Ali flywheel and LSD box. So perhaps a blessing in disguise?
Anyway. Back to the shed for now unfortunately!

Well since I need a stronger clutch I'm also going to put this in the AW....
As well as this
Anyone have 3SGTE clutch recommendations that will hold about 450-500ft/lbs?'89 AW11 V6 Turbo (350BHP & 380Ft/lbs!)

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Long delay update #1....
New E153 with the LSD has a input shaft seal issue..... What a pain. Have to pull the whole box apart to get to it! Not paying the $1,200-$1,800 +GST!! Quoted. (Did include a service however)
I just have to now make my own SST for these gears... Also have to figure out an issue with drive shafts. I believe my current non LSD ones are AW11 shafts with E153 non LSD inner stubs. The red circled ones are easy as I'll just change the inner stub. The blue circled ones, not sure yet.... Open to suggestions or knowledge? But the half shaft won't bolt up to the 3VZ block.
An easy and preferred option would be find an axle with an inner stub only that fits that side of the E153 LSD. Otherwise perhaps I machine the half shaft to change the bearing position so it can bolt to the block. Although I'm worried this might not fit well with my current custom mounts as the axle length might change too much. Yet to investigate as the engine is currently out. Hoping to solve this before I bolt a gearbox up and reinstall the engine and box, to be safe. (Getting sick of pulling the engine out!)
More updates on other progress soon, when I get a chance to upload

Long delay update #2....
So engines out again! I'm getting good at this. 3.5hrs The Hoist helps
Inspected the clutch... And yeah, for only a few 100 meters driving and some low boost dyno pulls. It does seem like it got a bit hot Still looking at options for a higher power holding replacement. But anything around 500ft/lbs looks pretty damn expensive. Seems like I need to go twin disk. Any recommendations?

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Long delay update #3....
So upon the resent engine removal I had a few concerns after draining the oil... I never touched the bottom end. And did make sure I cranked and built up oil pressure before starting. All was fine I thought. And this is the second oil change.
We took the rod caps and girdle off and inspected the bearings as well as everything else we could think of. And all okay!
A relief, but now wonder what caused this. 1 thought is an issue with the chinese turbo? (I'm going to add a strainer in the oil return line to check) or when I had to grind the tops off the x4 ARP studs in the heads. Most probably the latter! But I was super careful, covered everything and cleaned up with a magnet. Although not 100% I didn't expect this much metal would be around still. But at least have some confidence to put the engine back in.
Now to fit the new Ali flywheel, new clutch, new coil packs, new LSD gearbox. And dyno round 2!!!

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
So you got a new clutch Paul? A twin plate? My red thing uses a twin plate Quartermaster. Not nice in traffic but then little beasties like these are never going to be dailies are they?
Regards axle stubs etc, Malcolm has an AW with a 3SGTE in the back, he likely used an E153 and is a very helpful fella if hit up for info. Very knowledgeable (he's an engineer). If you use the Advanced Search (top right of forum, gear icon thing) you'll find one of his posts, might be helpful:

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Hey mate,
No clutch as yet. The quartermaster has been recommended a few times. I think anything suitable for the power will not be ideal to daily!
I'm still just looking at options due to the cost of the quartermaster. But it has to be done I guess!
I'll check in with Malcolm.
I beleive 3SGTE with the 3SGTE axles won't be much of an issue as the half shaft bearing should still fit the block fine. But with the 3VZ it doesn't, at least without some mods?
Thank you for your help
Hopefully it's not much longer!!!
