Boosted cars are like hot women.
A little edgy, every guy wants one,
some guys can't handle them,
and if you throw a little alcohol in them they'll rock your world.

I know older twin plate clutches can be hard in traffic but newer designs exist now and can feel the same as a lower powered single plate. Worth a look at some of the new ones around. Clutch Industries might have something useful.

Looks promising! Thank you!! :D
As I suspected, looks like finding an inner stub might be an issue? But at least I can try this half shaft option!

So thanks to the Woodsport forum link above (special thanks 84vvt!) I spent a messy time under a Camry at Zebra today to get a half shaft. Annoying as I not long ago parted a Camry but didn't know I needed this. Good news, it was $10! :D
I gave up on the bearing carrier housing as the subframe, exhaust and engine were in the way. Non of which are easy to remove while lying in bird poo, brake fluid and god knows what!

Long story short, it does fit the LSD box. It's 20mm shorter than the 3SGTE one. But I am still to see if I can use the 3S bearing housing with it and the 3VZ block. Otherwise I need to go back to Zebra with a big hammer. And pay $12 for a part I feel should be cheaper than a half shaft?

Anyway, pics for comparison.
The 3S one is the longer one with blue oil on the spline. And the Camry one is the shorter one with the bolts in.

So my "SST" worked fine on the 5th gear syncro. But won't work on 5th gear. The Gear seems very stuck! I've bent x2 (cheap) pullers so far trying to get it off.
20200228_142551.jpg
I've started to wonder if this is all a bit too hard/time consuming for now, and perhaps I should just hurry up, put the non-LSD box back in, get it dyno tuned and make sure it all works well. Before the winter kicks in!
Other options are I've found another puller that might work better. Or I just find a friendly gear box shop that can help whip it off so I can do the rest.

I took the engine off the stand and fitted the Ali flywheel, with ARP bolts and loctite. Torque'd to spec.
20200229_133050.jpg
Mock fitted the box to look at the axle position and placement.
20200229_140544.jpg
As suspected I need the Camry carrier bearing. The MR2 one won't work.
20200229_135555.jpg
But I gave up getting that out at Zebra due to everything being in the way. The Camry one also is incorporated with the engine mount. So I'll have to return and cut a section of the exhaust out of the car to get it out without removing the engine
I'll do this and check out the mounting, plus take some measurements to check that this will work before I worry about the rest of the box tear down.

I found a clutch also that didn't cost the earth! Single plate and rated for 545ft/lbs. Which I will pick up Tuesday. (When I hopefully get the Camry carrier bearing as well)

I sent my ECU and loom away to get modified and programmed for the coil packs. Complete with Ignitor and x3 CC-01 Mitsubishi Evo coils.

Ready to go, but I will have to wait to mount and wire these until the engine is back in.

Quick update:
Got the clutch.... (The whole reason I'm doing all this again!! )
20200303_172708.jpg
Fitted the clutch...
20200305_132130.jpg
Got the bearing carrier off the Camry with some cutting up the subframe! And it fits the block (durrrr...) And looks like the bearing and shaft position are correct.
20200303_172737.jpg
Length looks good also compared to the previous one peice non LSD axle. So I'm feeling better about this now :D
20200305_125402.jpg
Just have to hack this engine mount off then end which I don't need, and I'm sure it will be in the way!
20200305_204723.jpg
Oh, and now need the AW11 short outer CV shaft to fit the AW11 hub. Sure I have one. So will rummage through my shelves of spares! :D

Good find mate and yeah things that get done for projects can be challenging especially when you visit the breakers yards :D :D :D

The specialty tools for the gearboxes are not cheap and if you can get a friendly gearbox place, it is always a great help.

I have managed to work out a very good deal with WAGS (Wellington Automotive Gearbox Specialists) in Petone and Dave and Oli have been incredible help for my EA6X rebuild.

Take care and stay safe, rgards

So this weekend I started work on the AW... and only got this far. Cut up the half shaft mount and shaped it up, painted and fitted.

Pretty much can't do anything further until I get 5th gear off and sort the leaking seal. Then marry the engine and box and put it all back in, again....

Yay!!!

Shout out to Kaspa Transmissions who whipped this bad boy off for me and didn't even want to charge me!
I'm sure the Gearbox Factory that estimated up to $1,800 to do the input shaft seal, wouldn't have done that for me.

Hopefully I can make some progress now!! :D :D

And as I hope looks like a mechanical LSD you can see the spider gears.

For those unfamiliar here is LSD and non LSD side by side.

Non LSD OEM has the blue gear while LSD OEM viscous type has yellow gear and a shaft through the middle.
Aftermarket LSD use the blue gear and a small hole in the middle.

Note image 1 is open diff while image 2 is viscous LSD

Have you thought about utilising a transmission oil cooler seeing as the pump and piping are already there, considering the grunt you're going to be pushing through the gearbox? Wouldn't be hard to install one.....

I have actually :D And bought a small oil cooler. I plan to get some adaptors from the loop I'll remove to AN. I plan to get the car going and road legal first though
