Yeah brakes are good. The extra hp and slight extra weight hasn't seemed to cause an effect. And I have been told (I don't know for sure yet) That the brakes don't have to be upgraded for a cert. If they work well and seem suitable. So that being the case I will probably just do small upgrades like pads and fluid. Perhaps braided lines and maybe even discs in the future. As I don't want to us upset the balance and handling. But if I do need to upgrade the brakes. I have some Celica ones that just need some tidying up.Mike n Rochelle wrote:Are your brakes up to the task? Worth thinking about before cert.
Worth while investing in coilovers before I get a cert?

Brakes need to survive the cert test which is something like 3-4 hard stops from 100kph in quick succession without getting fade I think. Talk to your cert guy about it.

Yeah I heard it's something like that. Or a certain distance from 100ks without fade? But will obviously talk to him and find out when the coilovers are fitted.GDII wrote:Brakes need to survive the cert test which is something like 3-4 hard stops from 100kph in quick succession without getting fade I think. Yea that is correct. Some decent pads, good fluid and a bleed and you're pretty much there for cert.

I've read that stainless braided brake lines require certification although I never did myself. Might pay to look into as this is not an expensive or difficult mod.So that being the case I will probably just do small upgrades like pads and fluid. Perhaps braided lines and maybe even discs in the future.

Re: Worth while investing in coilovers before I get a cert?
Nope. Not a cert requirement however things to note about any brake lines.Benckj wrote:I've heard that stainless braided brake lines require certification although I never did. Might pay to look into as this is not an expensive or difficult mod.
From LVVTA themselves.
"Braided lines never require cert.
If they have crimped / swaged ends so that you can't take the hose off the fitting, then they are WOFable.
If they don't, you can't use them. Full stop."
So you can't just go make your own from screw together AN fittings.
I've just installed my braided hoses with red PVC covers and got a WOF a week later. These stand out a lot vs rubber but then again so do stainless braided lines with a clear cover.

That is good to know. I seem to recall the lines required a DOT tag or something similar as well.
