Trans Fluid 86 AW Sc

HI GUys

Can someone confirm a couple of things with me with regards to my auto transmission.

Do you check the fluid at idle with the engine running?
What type of Auto fluid do I use



Any help appreciated ads I think I need to put some in mine before the weekend run

Sorry Mike only spotted this now - after seeing you on Sunday. But for the sake of anyone that might need to know later... Yes check it with engine running (idling) after first going for a drive. Shift it gently through each of the gears then check it while idling. Fluid is ATF Dexron II. Should be nice and red, if it's gone dark it should be replaced.
