Help please! Cannot register my AW11 due to VIN decode

Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me.

I have imported a really nice 1986 AW11 MR2 from the UK and I'm struggling to get compliance because the LTNZ cannot decode the VIN.

I've entered the VIN myself into various online VIN checkers and I am having the same issue.

As far as I can tell the VIN is correct as I have the original sale docket (from 1986!) the MOT certs and I've seen the VIN plate myself on the car.

The VIN is JT1C0AW1100082517

Does anybody know how to decode this VIN? From what I can tell online the C0 is the issue as it doesn't seem to be the regular Toyota format.

I've contacted both Toyota NZ and Toyota UK and both are prepared to help me - but the relevant departments are away over Xmas/New Year and I would dearly love to get this sorted while I'm on holiday.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Check the build plate but everything from AW11 is probably the frame number and everything before is probably some UK government crap. This format seems like what they would have used for all new UKDM cars

It might be due to the fact it's an older car and the VIN decoders no longer work with them. The AW11 has issues with finding the exact car on many EPCs (electronic parts catalogs) no matter what market it was built for.

J=Japan
T=Toyota
1=Passenger car
C=2 door/coupe
0=MR2
A=Engine code(4AGE in this case)
W=Platform (MR2)
11=Spec (this can be very confusing for many of Toyotas models though)
8 last digits = specific frame code.

I know you probably know all the other bits but I thought I'd just break it down for others.
