Issue in the front wheels
So the car is tracking and making excessive movement on the road, and the mechanics think im crazy. Think of being hit by wind and the car moving to one side or the other, most recognizable at 100+.
Things that have been changed lately to try and fix the problem:
- New tyres 195 front 205 rear
- New Sway bar links
- Wheel alignment
- Brand new kyb shocks
- New Springs
- Added 50kg weight to front compartment
Nothing works, feels slightly less movement with new shocks but still there, could it be steering rack? Steering wheel seems to have no play in it.

Re: Issue in the front wheels
My first thought is a worn ball joint but normally these are checked when doing an alignment. What are your alignment specs?

Re: Issue in the front wheels
Check the rack mounts are tight. If they are, I'd be getting the wheel alignment checked again especially if you've done everything in the order you've got it listed. Replacing springs and shocks usually means struts out and depending on how that is done, the alignment would have to be done again.
See ya

Re: Issue in the front wheels
Maybe have a look at the rear suspension too. Anything that is loose or worn can easily affect the steering feel at the front of the car.

Re: Issue in the front wheels
now you mention it I didn't get the specs of my alignment, I will have to check up when I get my second one. The only thing they said was it was at max castor and could not be adjusted forward anymore but was aligned so not a problem right now. Mechanic said ball joints look fine, rear ball joints were done dec 17. Next move is probably steering rack or looking into the problem with the castor. I have a worn gearbox side(passengerside) engine mount that will be getting replaced in a week or so, and the sway bushes need doing to.

Re: Issue in the front wheels
On the alignment specs I often bring my own figures and have them adjust to those. I find with the factory settings the car did wander more than I liked although tyres lasted longer.

That might work for the SW20. This is for the AW11.Benckj wrote:This older thread is good reference for alignments specs.

Re: Issue in the front wheels
We are going to have to buy ourselves an AW11 each. Seems like there is a gap in our knowledge.Benckj wrote:Good point ^^, had SW on my mind.GDII wrote:That might work for the SW20. This is for the AW11.Benckj wrote:This older thread is good reference for alignments specs.

Re: Issue in the front wheels
I would have bought one years ago if only they were a tad larger. At 6’4” I barely fit into an SW20.

Re: Issue in the front wheels
Sounds to me as if they have applied a totally incorrect wheel alignment Viv. Either that or the suspension has been put back together in a bad way, or things not tightened up properly.Barark wrote:The only thing they said was it was at max castor and could not be adjusted forward anymore...

Re: Issue in the front wheels
Any slack in the suspension, out of round wheel and tyres, or steering issues should be easily identifiable by someone who knows what they're doing.
I'm with Charlie on this. Most likely to be a crap wheel alignment. You can talk to Ash about how a bad wheel alignment will make your AW feel
