Knock sensor

Post by Popey »

Has anyone had any success locating a genuine or after market knock sensor for a 4A GZE?

All searches have come up short so far both here and overseas. My car runs but not the way it should obviously.

Seems like this particular sensor has been out of production for some time an not able to be purchased.
You could use one from a 4AGE/4AFE or 3SGE/3SFE/3SGTE and just rewire in the plug. They all work the same.
I've installed one from a 3SFE into a 3SGTE with no issues.

Somewhere like Zebra or Pick a Part will have plenty with wiring to suit.

Most older factory knock sensors are tuned to be resonant at the knock frequency of the engine. Generally, the bore size of the engine is the main factor that determines knock frequency, so it's best to ensure you use one from the same engine block family (e.g. 4AFE or 4AGE). Using a sensor that's tuned for a different frequency will mean it doesn't help to protect your engine at all, but also possibly causes loss in power due to false detection of knock at its resonant frequency.
