Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Okay so I've given up getting the input shaft bearing out so I can replace the seal. Think I'll just take it back to Kaspa get them to do that so I can chuck it back together.
Meanwhile I have to deal with axles. I thought I would leave the non LSD E153 to AW11 axles alone so if I ever have to go back to the spare non LSD box the swap is easy and the axles are sitting there ready to go.
So this means I need x2 AW11 short (LHS) CV drive shafts. Luckily I rummaged through my horde and found x2 sets of AW11 SC axles Obviously one of the small shafts is in peices and needs a rebuild and a boot. My favorite job!!!
But with these 2 freshened up one will bolt to the LSD half shaft and one to the LSD stub for the gearbox end. (And I have a few spare long axles.....)
And so this is the reason I can't use the SW20 drive shafts on the AW11. Rusty big one is SW20 spline to hub.
Smaller is the AW11. AW11 26.8mm SW20 30mm

That AW11 spline IIRC is the same as the non turbo SW

Next job I started was cutting up an old dizzy cap to turn it into a CAS cover. Reinforced with a bit of fiberglass.
Thinking when its dry I might use some body filler and paint to tidy it up. Unless I get any better ideas....'89 AW11 V6 Turbo (350BHP & 380Ft/lbs!)

Just be careful when reassembling the driveshaft CV's as there is one way they should go back together even though they can be built up either way. It's something to do with the angles and ease of assembly - but I can't remember which one was what and what one was who(to quote Dr Seuss!!)

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Really... Good to know. I will have to look out for that then. Thanks! It's terrible enough trying to hold the 6 balls in place covered in grease while getting it's all back in place. I don't want to do it more times than I have too!85AW20v wrote:Just be careful when reassembling the driveshaft CV's as there is one way they should go back together even though they can be built up either way. Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Yeah the outers, but probably the inner too? Less interesting for you granted right now, perhaps unless you destroy the outers somehow. Interesting for people using st185 GT4 outers to connect their E153 axles to S54 hubs. Or possibly more interesting for others wanting to swap their AW11, using S54 axles in the SC hubs.Mr-Paulio wrote:The outer, hub spline you mean??mknz wrote:That AW11 spline IIRC is the same as the non turbo SW

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Yeah when they break. If you look at the outer spline compared to the inner, the bigger box, the bigger clutch, the bigger engine.... etc. You can clearly see where the weak part will be!
Or me thinking about using the late model turbo brakes with S54 box and axles on the BlackRat. Luckily I now have x2 spare turbo axles.... Then I'll have x2 spare non turbo axles

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
Hey Simon, can you elaborate on this a bit more? The inner race and bearing cage (if those are the right terms) actually look quite semetrical. I can't see that it would matter either way?85AW20v wrote:Just be careful when reassembling the driveshaft CV's as there is one way they should go back together even though they can be built up either way. Cheers in advance, Paul.

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
He means, the easy way to assemble the inner and outer race is the wrong way. It makes the CV bind up and not swivel. The harder way makes it work properly.

Re: The long road to V6 turbo AW11
So no way from looking? I just have to try both ways?
Cause looking at the parts they should be the same either way. But the inner race does have one side where the spline is shaved down before the end.

S54 axles fit just fine into my 1984 AW hubs
