That sounds like what I want to do. And a bonus about not having to mash up some more Frankenstein axles. From what I can see Quaife Helical LSD is recomended. (I shouldn't be lifting any wheels) Athough this might cost me more than what you indicated.... Decisions, decisions.....

The Quaife is 645GBP plus shipping and NZ taxes. So it's just under $1300 to initially buy before tax and duties. But yeah a bit more to actually get it here.

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b367809877
$740NZD plus shipping and fees.

This one has the yellow speedo gear instead of the blue one. That's odd, but it does have some for of aftermarket LSD as it has a very small hole rather than the open diff. The OEM LSD has a pin through the middle.
https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/o225656640
$1045NZD plus shipping and fees. Not bad for a whole box with a TRD LSD.

So this type of LSD should use non-factory LSD axles right?

Yip. However the yellow speedo ring concerns me. It should be blue. But the hole in the middle of the diff is very small so is LSD???. The other unit outside of the box is definitely a TRD.

There's currently a group buy for M factory helical lsd. I'm about to drop my deposit down for one $750USD free shipping too. They're basing it off a standard e153 open diff so won't need the lsd stubs either. Would you like me to add you to the group

Thanks... unsure what I am doing yet though. It's a pretty big delay on my build and starting to wonder if I just see how it goes. Pretty easy these days to drop the box again if need be. ( I'm getting good at it!) By all means add me if you like. But not sure I'm keen just yet. Thanks for the offer though!! :D

As per the title, this is taking some time. Harder now with a kid. But slow and steady....
I still have joy however when new bits arrive!
New 440cc Denso injectors I thought must have been made of gold considering the cost...
Injectors
Injectors
Yellow is close to gold though right? Has to be done and done right though aye!

And then more exciting parts....
Clutch
Clutch
Also in yellow, what's up with that?

Now I've moved on to mocking up for the exhaust and turbo fab. This was certainly one of the easier engine installs I've done!

Saves welding on or near the good engine, or good body. Also should be easier for fab work.
BTW happy to lend this cut to anyone that might want it for fab of a engine swap etc. (When we are finished with it)

No no no, I love the metallic blue actually. I have thought about it a lot and will always go back that colour if I get around to a respray one day. The yellow does not work with my colour scheme! But at least you can't see the clutch. And half the ingectors will be hidden by the plugs :D :D

Annnnd... Some progress on the Blue car...
I felt real bad having to cut holes in a clean AW
But it had to be done.
20190306_102514.jpg
I also cleaned up the engine bay. Removing all the redundant spot welded brackets etc.

Parts off to powder coat next week! (Yes, Candy Red  )
20190306_101419.jpg
I've positioned the water pump and heat exchanger also and run half the water lines. More updates when this is completed.

And new clutch (again, right one this time) arrived today. Should be intresting to drive with this bad boy?

Quick update/photo dump. Things are still progressing slowly... :(
Water pump and hard lines installed.
Heat exchanger installed.
Oil lines for the turbo and sump installed.
Along with the rest of the engine.
And started on the logs for the turbo manifold.

They fit! Kinda...
20190402_222300.jpg
A few tweaks to allow 2 of the stud nuts to actually tighten up. But they look good and I can get them on and off without dropping the engine. (Tested in my mock up engine and bay) Bonus!
Almost ready to go full steam on the exhaust now. Shouldn't be long till we can get that turbo mounted. (I hope)
I have a few smart ideas for cold air intake also. More to come once I figure the final details out.
20190402_224309.jpg
Increased the steering angle today also. As well as servicing the steering rack and replacing the boots. Also bought a media blaster to rust treat and prep some components. Its awesome! Quickly ran out of the 1/2kg media that came with it! Of course.
More details on that when I get more media and can do a bit more than 10% of the job!

All this time I've said my AW is rust free. Well not entirely... Bought a cheap sand blaster and tidied up a few parts. What's weird is there seemed to be a lot more rust under the paint. Almost as if it was n it fully clean when painted from the factory and it's just kind of been slowly slowly growing over the last 30years?
