For the 3S you can use a knock sensor from many other vehicles, such as the 5sfe from a Camry. I am wondering if you could do the same, as long as it's the same thread and plug, it is listening for the same noise. Any 4a, 5a or 7a engine would most likely work, at least I would have thought. Would be good if someone can confirm

The part number is specific to 4AGZE so I'd not risk it without prior knowledge of someone confirming another type works.

Is the part number on the 3sgte more generic?

Yes they are a lot more generic but still there were at least 3 different ones on the MR2 3SGTE for Japan. It always pays to check as each engine type and configuration has a knock frequency that differs. One engines knock frequency might be another engines background noise. Although it seems a 1UZ V8 sensor is the same as 3S sensor for some versions of the MR2. Do the research before potentially damaging your engine.

Not from knock, from the common GEN2 block crack on the water pump side of cylinder 1.
Much off topic, where are the Mods?!

Knock knock? Oh wait we're trying to avoid that...

A more serious answer might be, contact Car Parts Canterbury. They've usually got tons of MR2s (and Levin's) so might be your best bet if it is an urgent issue. https://www.carpartscanterbury.co.nz/ - Also I take it you've contacted Toyota and made sure they don't have any?
