Lowering springs

Post by thorns »

Suggestions on springs for stock struts on NZ roads?

Seems the Tein S are pretty harsh and unforgiving.
TRD's are gone, but has been suggested Eibach are the same?

Cobra/H&R/Dobi/King.....

Nothing is comfortable on our roads if you lower the SW20 but some are more bearable than others.

Eibach made the TRD spring but the spring they sell as the ProKit are not the same spring or specs. But still a good spring.
Cobra are nice and comfy and still make the car drive well. H&R have a few versions, I know one is race spec and quite stiff. Good for track but less so for everyday road use. Dobi, last set I know of fail a WOF due to not being captive. and King, not experienced so not sure.

From what I have read eibach is the best option. For daily driving I doubt you would want to be any lower. Just about all of the other brands are very low and mess with the suspension geometry to the point I wouldn't want to go there.

Cobra are made in NZ so easy enough to source.
Eibach, what are my chances of finding them on the shelf somewhere in NZ?

Probably Zero. Import from Australia. Or get someone to fly them over in their luggage. You can stack them together so the are the size of 2 springs.

They are usually just over the GST threshold with shipping so you will get stung for customs. But you can order them from ebay or search for shops in Australia.

What is the threshold these days? It used to be $400 but think I saw something where its been increased recently?

GST was always present on all imports from $0.01 upwards but if the GST and duties come under a certain amount they wave the fee. You can check on the import estimate website that the NZ government have for different things that you import like clothes, car parts and other things.

Looks good but I would triple check the shipping price. Amazon doesn't usually give it to you until checkout.
