Anyone had experience with ebay style exhausts? I see one on trademe at the moment.
Are they generally poor quality/fitting and drone or sound terrible? Main thing attractive to me is the twin pipes for keeping a stockish style look.

Re: Ebay style exhausts
i know a few people who have bought them and have generally not had any complaints, fitment seems to be okay but can also be hit or miss. they are known to be quite loud as well and sound greate at WOT, and some have said you may/may not need to add an extra exhaust hanger. i cant comment on the welds however ive been thinking of getting a cheapo one too and modifying it to my needs, such as adding better bigger mufflers down the line etc

I've had a few prices to build them, but once you mention that you want double mufflers out the back the cost seems to just double over a single can exit.
In saying that I guess the gamble is if you hit a dud that requires lots of fiddling and patching up it would end up similar in cost, where if you get a local shop they might be more likely to stand behind there work with any issues, welds cracking etc.

They look a bit under half the price of a high quality japanese brand exhaust. I would also guess they are very loud. You may run into WOF troubles depending on your downpipe. A local shop can definitely make you up anything but I know the very good fabricators here at least will likely charge well over $1000 for a high quality job and usually give a 10 year no cracking warranty. Of course someone can easily mash it together with a MIG for a fraction of the price. Sometimes you get lucky and can get second hand exhausts from Japan. I bought a HKS silent hi-power from trademe several years ago that was just imported. Yahoo and ebay also.
Someone made this up for my old gen 3 from before I bought it. It's not pretty but 3" all the way and not too loud due to the proper muffler in there. Only single exit and can't have been very expensive to make.

Re: Ebay style exhausts
I had a local exhaust shop make mine for under $500 being mild steel and fuel exits with muffler on one side and cut out on other. Was a bit tricky as it had to go around my A2W radiator located under boot.

I found, (when I got a custom one made up) that one muffler just wasn't enough to keep it quiet. NA's are louder that GTs too.thorns wrote:I've had a few prices to build them, but once you mention that you want double mufflers out the back the cost seems to just double over a single can exit.

MR2s often need two mufflers, as they are pretty loud with such a short pipe system.
They're more expensive than single muffler systems for obvious reasons. An extra product. More bending of pipes and more time welding.
Just try to get something that's of a similar volume or quieter, otherwise it could get green stickered. (unless you have "exhaust" written on your LVV cert)
