I ran 205 and 225 on 6.5" 15s for years. I'm now running 205/55R15 and 225/50R15 on the OEM 15s which are 6" and 7". As tw2 shows it's OK to run tyres like that.

Good to know, I'll keep the setup that it currently has.
Never been so excited about new tyres.

I see you're Manawatu, there are plenty of days at Manfield, and they're usually in the wet due to Fielding being how it is
Oi, don’t be like that. I’ll have you know we get 184mm less per annum than levin

Yeah but unlike you, our racetrack is just our normal streets, 80kmh is the average in all the 50 zones

Hey people, so update. Have had new (not fancy) tyres put on the rear and had the wheels balanced and aligned.
I haven’t had a chance yet to take it out on a wet road, but just from driving around the last couple weekends I’m thinking there might be something else going on.

There’s something about the open roads that’s making it feel unstable that I can’t figure out. It’s only when I’m getting up over 90, so not really even fast at all, it almost feels floaty (and even that’s not quite the right word).

Maybe something up with the suspension after all? I’m hoping it’s not all psychological to be honest. I love how it feels around town. Unless this really is just how the factory setup feels all the time at slightly higher speeds.

Hope this isn’t too annoying or anything, I’m pretty clueless about anything technical about any cars and unsure where to turn to.

What size and brand are the tyres? Can you physically push the car side to side when it's parked? Might even be sway bar or something like that

Did you end up having the ball joints replaced? Check all bushes and especially the rear trailing arm bush. Did you get a spec sheet with the alignment?

I just had a go at pushing it side to side while parked, won't budge (for me anyway).

Here's what's been done/checked, sorry they seem to come out sideways, not sure how to fix that

Oh and tyres - front are Goodride, 205/45, rear are Triangle, 225/50. I know they're not good but I can't afford the good tyres just yet...

I am having trouble reading their alignment sheet. It looks like front? Toe is way off still?

They did lower ball joints for the rear. Unfortunately nothing about the rest of the bushings. I would recommend a polyurethane bushing kit sometime. All of the rubber ones are very worn at this age. Nothing about rear trailing arm bush either which can cause major side to side sway while driving. They may all be warrantable but not necessarily in good order. The only way to check is to jack up the car and use a pry bar to test them all one by one.

Yes like I said, I’m meeting a couple other financial obligations before I can afford a set of good tyres. I’m well aware that they’re not good.

I’ll have to get a shop to take a look at anything else for me, I don’t have the know-how to check anything myself. Thanks for the advice

They will be a huge improvement on very old falling to bits tyres. Not everyone has potenza/pilot sport/eagle F1 money lying around 24/7.
