Dash warning lights

A little off topic (not really) my park lights won't turn off. They were off when I was checking everything out, turned headlights on to check them out. Turned them off completely and park lights stayed on. I have one of those auto light things, could that be playing up? It has never done it before.

Auto light things? I assume it's not OEM unless I've just not heard of one before.

Haha. I guessed it wasnt stock. All it does is turn lights on when it gets dark

Yeap. Auto light unit is playing up. Give the cable a jiggle and the lights flicker on and off. Now to pull that apart to see if I can fix it.

Update. Disconnected auto light unit, park lights still staying on or flickering. I am at a loss now. Hopefully someone might have an idea.

It could either be the switch control on the steering column or the tail light relay. Or a bad earth or blub causing the circuit to.liggt when it shouldn't.

Grab yourself the wiring diagram from the members tech section and start checking things.

I pulled the relay, and reconnected the battery and the lights came one and started flickering. i would assume that without the relay the circuit would be dead? I am going to look at seeing if it has a bad earth. Bulbs are fine i think, will check them out tomorrow and replace if needed.

Yes if you take out that relay there should be no power to that circuit. Try take out the 15A Tail fuse too. Not that this will change much as it's directly before the power feed for that relay.

Definitely sounds like there is something up with the wiring somewhere providing power to it where it shouldn't be.

Update. Turns out when I replaced the tail lights, the bulbs were stuffed. I replaced with Narva ones and no more issues. I checked old bulbs and looks like both filaments were somehow connected, so it lit up parklights. My brake switch is loose so brake lights are on till I tighten up, hence power to parklights.

But yay, fixed.

Surprisingly a common fault for them to do that.

Your brake lights might be the rubber stopper missing or worn out. Also a common fault.

Is that the rubber bit in the spring on the brake pedal?

It's the rubber bump stop that contacts the brake light switch. It lives on the pedal itself. Let me grab a parts diagram to show you.

Mmmm Repco branded bulbs. Had no end of issues with them. Narva are the better option if you buy at Repco. You can get others elsewhere.
