Hey guys
I am trying to replace the turbo oil feed and return gasket on my 1990 mr2. I got the 2 bolts off but the oil lines will not slide down to get the gasket off. Has anyone done this job with the motor in the car? Does the oil feed banjo on the block need to come off to allow it to move?
Also I have heard of the lines themselves cracking and leaking oil so I'm hoping it is actually the gasket but I can't really see much in there right now.
This is from underneath looking up at the turbo
Thanks

if you pull enough the metal will bend a bit oit of the way do perhaps so you can get the gasket outreplace it and bend it back, however the ideal thing to do would be to undo the banjo feed and then the return and do it like that if you dont want to risk cracking or damaging the hardlines

Yep undo the whole thing, it is one piece. Banjo is 24mm from memory.

It might be a 27mm. I tried a 24mm but it didn't appear to fit when I was tearing down Olaf's broken GEN2.tw2 wrote:Yep undo the whole thing, it is one piece. Banjo is 24mm from memory.

Yep you are probably right. I remember I could fit a long 1/2" extension from the socket and up over the top of the turbo as the torque spec is quite high.

Re: SW20 Turbo Oil feed/return gasket
Thank you guys for all your help. I just finished the job today it's a fun one!
If anyone ends up doing this a few tips:
Remove exhaust
cat as well if you have a thin socket set (I didn't)
from underneath get the two bolts holding turbo to oil lines, also 1 bracket near sump holding the return line and then the rubber pipe going to sump.
Up top remove coolant lines on turbo and bracket and move them out the way.
Undo oil feed banjo with a 27mm socket + u joint + extension to clear the turbo, its on tight.
Replace turbo to oil line gasket: 15471 and banjo bolt gaskets x 2: 155526A
I used a magnet on a stick to get the banjo gasket in place then maneuvered the bolt through it into the block (best bit)
Put it all back together and top up the coolant + oil if you lost any.
Good luck!

Re: SW20 Turbo Oil feed/return gasket
Hey sorry to jump on this late, but Nightshift, how long did this take you? I'm about to do this job, how hard is it to do in your driveway? Did you have to drain all the oil? Cheers
Also, how was your oil return line condition?
