Stripped lower bolt hole on front engine mount

Post by Jabeo »

Hello all,

it appears that i have fallen victim to the classic case of the threads in the lower bolt hole on the front engine mount on the gearbox becoming cross threaded/stripped. noticed the bolt was completely missing when i went to fix the sump gasket, tried to thread a new one in but just wont tighten so it looks like ill have to timesert it to strengthen it up as helicoils dont seem ideal. Anyone in Auckland/Waikato have an m10x1.25 timesert kit i could borrow for this at all? if not ill have to see how much a new kit is.

Any other suggestions at all? seems like a pretty common thing to happen, top bolt is sweet, have put a washer and lock washer on to ensure it doesnt back out at all, engine mount front and rear are both secure and engine doesnt move much at all, so it seems like timesert will be my best bet

Drill and tap for a M12x1.25 you will have to do this or larger for your insert any way .
I have done this on the same fault on a Turbo many years ago.

Olaf's has a stud in it where this has happened.

Be gentle with your aluminium parts. Torque specs are really low on them cross threading is a big killer. I try to wind a lot in by hand so I know it's set right.
