Glove Compartment

Post by JKH »

Hey guys, me again. I've been looking online for a while now but can't figure this one out.

I want to pull the glove box out to clean it properly. Seems like nobody's ever cleaned it inside judging by it's state, and it's proving difficult to clean in situ. Something is absolutely caked in there.
I can't seem to find out how remove it correctly. I've found 5 screws that almost had it out but there seems to be a hidden screw or clip just below the passenger's air vent somewhere, which is stopping it. I can't figure how to get to that one, and I got scared of breaking something.
Is there some secret to this? Or does a bunch of other stuff have to come out first?

I seem to recall the 3 screws on inside top panel and then 2 on underside corners. Believe the box clips into a locating notch which might be a bit sticky if never pulled out before.

Maybe if someone could post a pic of the box removed it would be of some help. Don't think I have any pics showing tabs.

There are 2 plastic pins at the pivot point.

Ah ok do those pins need to come out also? It kind of felt like it was going to come out as one unit, hinges included.

If you want to take just the box out then the pins work. If you want to remove all the trim around it too then there is a clip holding it at the back.

Image 2 should help.

Pull the glovebox directly backwards.

I see! I'll have a go at that - thanks for the pics, very helpful. I seriously couldn't find that info anywhere about what was holding it in place after all the screws were out.

Great success! I've never pulled anything out of a car before so it feels like a big win for me. The caked on stuff inside was like glue that stuff had stuck to, I don't even want to know. Thanks for using day-off time to show me, much appreciated!
