Sw20 Exhaust

Post by Christopher »

Hey guys,

I'm brand new to the car world and have just bought my first mr2 in hopes of restoring it and making a fun, fast daily driver.

The first thing on my list is to make it sound louder, I have a 1992 g limited n/a. Any advice on how to get started? My guess was fitting an aftermarket muffler, but I don't know the best place to look for ones that fit and that dont blow the bank.

Hope I don't sound too naive
Cheers :)

There have been some recent discussions about fitting mufflers to the NA engines. A couple of us have installed adapted turbo mufflers with varying results.

I myself have fitted a TRD 3SGTE muffler to my 1990 G-Limited. But not the cheapest option.

Just keep in mind the NA engines are quite buzzy, sort of like the Altezza but with a shorter exhaust. If you fit a resonator it might reduce that noise and make it sound better. Making it louder won't always make it sound better. Updating the intake pipe can make it sound much nicer without the compromise of a quite car when needed.

Definitely +1 on doing the intake before the exhaust - you will find you end up with an excellent noise, and may decide against the exhaust

+2 :D
Loose all the intake acoustic boxes etc and intake noise is lovely. I had intake with stock exhaust and no reason to get an exhaust after that. (I just did tips to complete the look)
