Distributer Oil Leak? best place for parts?
Hi all, looks like my distributor has sprung an oil leak (see photos). Anyone know the best place to get new seals for it? or can someone point me to some advice as to how to fix this? Sorry, I must be blind, but I can't seem to find the search function for this forum.
Cheers!

No search function for unpaid forum users.
You can get distributor rebuild kits that contains a new bearing, shaft seal and o rings.
http://www.kbox.ca/catalog/product_info ... cts_id=589
Rebuilding is not the easiest thing to do if you don't have a press or way to press out the shaft. And make sure you don't damage anything when you take it all apart and you put it back together right and have everything done up to the right tightness.

GDII pretty much covered everything you need to know.
I would highly advise using a press. Makes it a LOT easier. I didn't have a press, so I paid a shop to do mine. Cost 1 hours labour. Tried and failed with a punch.
Kbox.ca is the place to gettem - Make sure you pay canadian dollars, works out to be way cheaper. Shipping is decently fast ~ 2 weeks.

Think I'll have to get one of these kits too. This will probably be a dumb question that's been answered elsewhere - but do all the various iterations and revisions of 3SGE and 3SGTE use the exact same distributor?

They are not identical if you are being technical, like me, but the kits work for the parts that matter.

Re: Distributer Oil Leak? best place for parts?
Thanks all for the advice. Unfortunately, I can't even seem to get the distributor off the engine! I've removed the two bolts, and used plenty of CRC and no luck. Bolts came out without a fuss, but the distributor was stuck. I eventually managed to get it to rotate/adjust a bit, so it does turn now (with difficulty), but I can't for the life of me pull it out. Any advice?

Damn! I had the same problem with Olafs car. The only thing holding it in is the external O ring. I couldn't get Olafs one out... So no advice from me sadly.

That's not very reassuring! haha
Apparently there are two bolts on a hold down clamp where the distributer enters the engine. They're supposed to be torx head (though mine are hex), and unfortunately mine won't budge! Maybe you'll have better luck loosening these on Olaf's car?

It should only need to come out the back of the head.
Nah, not going to be playing with that car again. Make sure if you don't get it out, you set the timing properly again with a timing light and setting the ECU to timing mode on the OBD1 Diagnostic Port.

Re: Distributer Oil Leak? best place for parts?
I had the same thing last weekend with an identical distributor on a 3S-GE in a Toyota EXIV. Mine was stuck fast and wouldn't move. Gentle tapping on a soft piece of wood got it to slowly rotate. It took a while but eventually it would rotate about 25mm left and right. I then used the wood/hammer to tap it from behind and a large screw driver to slowly leverage it out. Takes a while but came out eventually. If you do reattempt it, make sure to mark where the rotor points so you can put it back in a similar position.

Re: Distributer Oil Leak? best place for parts?
Thanks, i ended up using a pickle fork like a crowbar against the dizzy housing and the thick bracket that the clip for the spark plug wires attaches to. It was a pain and has me worried it'll be a hassle going back in. I'm hoping cleaning off the oil that's caked on the shaft will be enough to make it fit ever so slightly better. And getting the dizzy out was supposed to be the easy part...

Re: Distributer Oil Leak? best place for parts?
That's god news. I didn't really want to lever anything on it in case I broke it.
Lots of fresh oil on the O ring and into the head will let you insert it easier. It only goes in with the rotor facing one way. The key in the cam shaft is offset to prevent it going in the wrong way.
