Fuel cutting out

Post by WgtnMR2 »

Hey guys, wondering if someone might have had a similar issue.

Have had a heap of work done over the last 5 years, everything has been going well until recently. about 12 months ago, had Justine @ TMS put in a link G4+, injectors, fuel pump, and its currently reading 300hp at the wheels and have had no problems for the last until the last couple of weeks.

Basically, when firing up from cold (letting it warm-up) the fuel seems to get cut literally 500m from leaving the front gate or when I'm doing about 80 over haywards... not ideal.

All lights /electrics are out until the car comes to a stop and the dash lights come on. turns over but won't fire unless I completely turn off and start up again. Doesn't seem to be a problem when it's stored in a parking building as it's never occurred on my way home from work.

The guys have checked the ECU, fuel pump, the negative terminal, fuel pump relay, car alarm and nothing seems to show up as a problem. Looking at getting a scope on to it this week fingers crossed it will play up when it's attached.

Has anyone had a similar problem? If you have, what was the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hard to diagnose with a G4 ECU however it sort of sounds like the fuel pump resistor has failed or the fuel pump resistor relay is playing up.

If you still have the OBD1 diagnostic port in place, jump FP and +B pins and go for the same drive and see if it does it. This permanently turns on the fuel pump to test it. However it will only work if this system is still in place. To test, turn the key to ON and jump the pins (with a decent sized wire) and you should hear fuel running through the fuel rail.

Link ECUs do record faults, max rpms how many times the engine has been started etc
have a look see in the ECU for any recorded faults ( looks like its been done )
failing that might be your ignition switch or the like .

Thanks for the reply guys. Nothing shows up in the link logs and the relay looks clean. The pump is "brand new".

Will give those suggestions a go and see what happens....

**Update**

Well, they scoped the electrics and the only fault that showed up for a blink was the engine temp sensor.

Had this replaced and while it's only been a week, doesn't seem to be cutting out.
