So i was poking around trying to clean up oil after a dizzy leak and spotted this plate gap. I believe it's where the automatic transmission meets the engine. It's right near the speed sensor. I've tried to find diagrams or photos of this spot online, but no luck.
This cant be right though? It looks like a DIY, "she'll be right" job. Should i be concerned about this exposure? What's going on behind that plate? Car was running fine

I believe a bit of exposure is normal, I think my Auto MR2 has that. Or you can make the exposure happen with a bolt removed (it looks like one is missing?) Will get an expert to confirm

The plate looks very factory cut. I forget what it looked like when looking under Olafs one while jamming a crowbar in there to stop the crank from spinning while doing up the crank pulley bolt.
