Engine dead advice

Post by kilgh »

Well, my engine in my 1995 Gen 3 N/A started making horrible noise and smoking badly from the engine tray on the way home from work the other day before cutting out completely. Pretty sure it is rebuild/replacement time. Any advice? Thinking buying a rebuilt and dropping it in would be the easiest? If so, who knows a decent company to buy one from?

Possibly find an engine from an ST20* Celica to rebuild then swap out MR2 specific parts onto it and get the car back on the road.

As GDII said its easiest to find a gen 3 NA engine from another model and transplant whatever parts you need. Still looking at a fair chunk of change to buy and get work done if you can't do yourself.

A V6 or turbo conversion would be what most of us would do. Its also the hardest and most expensive option.
