Can someone help me make sense of this wiring?

Post by ansys »

So it would appear i have two heater control modules wired up under the glove box?? I've got the one who's lid broke off, and another one which was velcro'd to it. (See photo for part numbers for both).

The one that is properly attached has that harness coming off it (highlighted with the red line) and ending in two connectors (boxed in red) that can connect to each other.

How is that 2nd heater control module supposed to be attached (instead of just dangling or velcro) Or why did someone add it in? What version cars did the two boxes come from?

I've got a 90 NA G-Limited. Someone at some point has deleted the A/C unit in it

I'm so confused, so thanks in advance for your help!

Good news! Thanks to your diagrams Phil and the photos from your rebuild on page 14 Mo (nice work by the way), I was able to locate where that control module should go...

Bad news... it's supposed to be kind of sandwiched between the cooler unit and the tub of the car (toward the front)... I didn't have much time to look at it tonight, but it seems I might not be able to get that module where it's supposed to go because I believe the harness hugs the cooler unit and kind of gets "clamped" in place against the chassis when the cooler unit is installed and cant be slid high enough from underneath (plastic in the way? I couldn't find a great photo of that harness routing in your rebuild). I imagine this is why whatever muppet who previously owned the car decided to velcro the module to the other one after deleting the A/C unit and not putting it all back together properly??

follow up question... how difficult is it to remove the Cooler Unit?

thanks all for the help!

Also, any idea as to why those two official looking connectors are just hanging there disconnected?

Hi mate, I have the same in my car and it is a 1990 as well. I would not worry too much about it

If I get a chance I'll look through my JDM 1990 wiring diagram book to see if these show up as anything. I suspect I may not be able to find them but I can see anyway.

thanks! yeah, I'm not too concerned about them, was more curious as to why those two connectors are there and what's their purpose.

after much annoyance I was finally able to squeeze that control module in the back there without fully taking out the Cooler Assembly. My climate control still acts a little quirky at times (doesn't seem to want to switch to 'feet only' blower; If I'm on 'low' air at a cool temp, then slide it over to a hot temp, the blower motor speed increases on its own, etc...) but I imagine some of that might be some relic of whatever wiring the previous owner did when deleting the A/C. It's probably time to move on to more important matters with the car.

I did find a plug that matches and a socket and plug that matches but hard to tell what yours are exactly.
The Japanese translation is Power Register. But if it was unplugged then your fan speed controls wouldn't work.
