That would be a backwards step. Just need to sort out the tune and possible mods to safely get upto max level. It should run better than stock even if not getting your desired hp figure.

It must be the tune then. The factory ECU is using a very old 80s spec Bosch software so the LINK should be able to out do it just by plugging it in a getting a good tune with no other mods. Updating your turbo and injectors should net far better gains.

I would want to know more about the turbo as well, what was actually done to it? Some upgrades are not upgrades at all but even so, the power seems way down.

Stock ct20b's have spun up 350rwhp. They won't be all that reliable at that level, but you don't need to upgrade them to get to 300 at the rear wheels. If you do want an upgrade just get ATS in the US to do it. They are $850usd if you send them your turbo. They rebuild the turbo and use a billet compressor wheel and inconel turbine wheel. Get that exhaust changed ASAP, 3sgte's LOVE a big exhaust. Get that gas out as quick as possible.

250hp @ wheels is what my first turbo made with just stock ct20b, 3" downpipe, 3" exhaust and 16psi boost back in 2005.

You will be fine with the high performance turbo and existing exhaust, just need to get tuned properly. You may need an external wastegate to keep it under control and some form of AFR monitoring.

If the Tuner has issues with cooling engine perhaps it would be best to address that issue first. When was the last time coolant was flushed & replaced? There are several ways to aid cooling including IC fan or sprayer, engine lid fans, exhaust/turbo wrap or shields, water injection and A2W IC set-up. Not really knowing your mods in detail makes it hard for us trollers to pin point exact problem. Possible to post up pics of engine bay?

The mods list is short but the changes from the last time the power was 'higher' is what has affected it. And it not being a factory ECU anymore, that is well beyond what we know as each tuner will adjust as they see fit. We don't know the tune, the turbo is more than capable of putting down that power.

Sorry Jim I disagree with the existing exhaust.

If you want actual performance you need a 3" exhaust. Those with them run 12s. Those without run 14s.

I once thought so as well Al but have found there is little gain from the increasing beyond the B pipe. It may make more of a difference on low performance older turbos like the Ct20b compared to later model high flow designs.

On my current exhaust I have a duel exhaust from B pipe with one being a 3" straight pipe from turbo to exit. This side is controlled by an exhaust cut-out in which the other is restrictive at 2.5" and goes through several bends and muffler. There is very little change in AFR or performance when I switch between the two sides.

Yes they show up quite well. Hard to see but IC doesn’t look like it has a fan and is stock heat shield over exhaust manifold?

BTW what did the Tuner do to keep engine cool while on dyno. Most put a large fan in front of radiator but engine needs some fresh air supplied to side vents.
