Interesting. This part is still available here it appears. Top hose to the heater core.

Thank you. I'll keep my eyes out for the time being. I ended up putting the green coolant into the system, and I don't know if I should be worried or not; is this the normally operating temp?20210223_175006.jpg

Yeah that's normal operating temp, good work
What is shown in the photo is a bit low but he now says it back up to the middle.

You are bleeding it as per the service manual? Just checking as I'm not sure what you know about the MR2 and bleeding the coolant system is very specific on these cars.
Yep. I've also looked on various guides and videos. So far so good, but I might have to replace the water inlet plug tomorrow to get everything properly sealed tight, stupid of me not to pick one up while I was doing the rounds. Oh well, more work for me!

Water inlet plug? The filler cap? Yeah a good cap will prevent overheating and the system blowing coolant out.

Part number 90341-16008 I believe, it's the same plug used for the drain on the oil pan. Luckily replacement plugs are pretty cheap and easy to find. I'm just deciding whether or not to go for an OEM style one or the fancy 'Smart-O Sump / Drain Plug' one for an extra $8

The plug on the thermostat water inlet? Yeah that's an odd part designed as a coolant return on the WRC Celicas and Corolla for one of the bleed tanks. I've not seen it used on the MR2 for anything but it is an 80s design. It's very curious that part.

It is an odd piece. This is what you get when engines are shared between vehicles. Anyways I might play it safe and go with an OEM style one off Supercheap, no big difference other than a green o-ring, I could probably replicate the effect using a normal o-ring I have laying around. I'll update tomorrow :D

It should use a copper washer. I've never heard of anyone loosening this bolt.

What is odd is that it doesn't feature on the ST205 Celica and obviously not on the Corolla as it wasn't fitted with the 3SGTE from factory.
It does feature on the GEN2 3SGE in the Celica and MR2 but not the GEN2 3SGTE in the Celica.
You can see where it connects to here on the ST185 GT-FOUR WRC. The hose with the red fitting.

There are 3 radiator caps for the coolant system. And I believe they all run different pressures.
Swirl pot 1.5
Radiator 2.8?
Bleed box 2.1
Intercooler 2.1
