Heater controls/window switches

Post by JKH »

Hey people, anyone know why replacing my heater/AC control unit (which works fine) has caused my window switches and mirror adjust buttons to stop working? Haven't messed with anything else and windows/mirrors were working fine before.

Could be a coincidence. The wires in the driver's door between the door and body can break causing these to stop working. But it's normally only 1 item. Maybe a fuse?

Yeah I'll check on the fuses today. I was hoping that was more likely, since it's windows on both sides that were both working fine before that now don't work (same with the mirrors). The mirror retract function still works though for some reason

I took a look at the diagram. The windows are powered by the 30A POWER fuse and the mirrors are controlled by the 15A RAD & CIG fuse. Both of these are down by the drivers kick panel by the throttle pedal. If your radio works then this fuse is fine.

See if they are both good. If they are it's very likely it's the door harness. Try open the door at different angles to see if anything works. If it's random then we know it's the wires.

Let me know how you get on.

Well both fuses are fine. I tried moving the doors back and forward while messing with the windows but there was nothing at all, not even intermittent.
I think I'll pull everything out of the centre again and see if it's fixed, since it was all 100% fine before I replaced the heater controls, maybe something weird going on back there? Though I have no idea how that might even happen. I'll junk the radio at the same time I think, it's aftermarket and literal trash. If anyone has a spare factory single din let me know!

Well I pulled everything I'd touched apart again and still nothing. No clue what happened. Oh well, least the windows are stuck in the up position

I'd be looking at the door harness for the right side.

Could have just been a coincidence that they failed at the same time you did that work.

So it turned out to be broken wires, as predicted - must just have been a coincidence that they all broke right at the same time I was messing with the centre console stuff. Thank you MR2 for your comical timing (I still love you).

Glad you got it sorted. Definitely a coincidence that it happened like that. But a super common issue that will continue to plague MR2 owners for years to come.
