HID headlights? Anyone?
Hello guys,
Just want to make my MR-S eyes more BLUE and brighter, so I did some homework and there is two method,
1) change light blubs
2) install HID lights kits
Ofcourse number 1 option is cheaper and easier, even novice like me can do that too!
But question is, which one is actually improve brightness at night and looks more 'blue' or purple?
Any recommandation?

HID headlights will give you the effect you are looking for but have significant upsides and downsides.
If not properly set up, they can blind people coming 'round the next corner. Not good for either party. They have a very sharp fall-off compared to your standard bulb. For the first few weeks, it might feel as if you are driving around with your fog lights on in comparison to the standard bulb. They don't give you that wide-spread blanket light a standard bulb gives you. With an HID, there is light and then there isn't light, which can be quite scary to start with, especially on unfamiliar roads.
The upside is a sharper light which I find is a better light to drive with. Easier to see by other drivers in the daylight/twilight hours, which I find is important as I don't run day lights. When in those half and half weather situations or thick fog, people can still see the beam.
HID bulbs are also expensive. My colleague had to replace his in a Mazda Atenza and the bulbs and ballasts set him back $200.00+
Try driving at night with someones HIDs and see if you like it. If not, stick with the regular bulbs.

Also, who makes a complete HID headlight unit for a ZZW?
Putting HID bulbs in the standard housings is not legal.

I've never seen a MR-S with HID. The facelift models got H7 main bulbs from memory... never bothered to pull mine apart to check.

That sounds like goufcustom's best rout then.
Find a wreaking 2004+ MR-S or order the kit directly from a Toyota service desk.

I checked on toyodiy, you're either mistaken about them being HIDs, or about them being standard. MR-S never got HIDs, Toyota is really slow on the uptake of HID headlights, they still only have them on the high end models and sometimes only as an option. Even an 86GT doesn't get HIDs, only the 86GTS.KWAFA wrote:Mine has them... standard.
Thats a HB4 halogen, not an HID.

If you have HID's on yours, they'll have a large ballast resistor pack hiding around somewhere.
If they do, they're illegal.

Thanks guys!
What a novice I am!!!
I did some homework and found out that light colour is different depends on temperature of lights!!
Now, question is how do I increase temperature?
Super white sounds really awesome like Porche lights!

You buy new bulbs. That is your only legal option.

Re: HID headlights? Anyone?
Given the number of contradictions in the ad I wouldn't touch the first ones with a barge pole.
5000K.. "Temperature of the Light Can Reach 4000K " err, which is it.
100/90W and "Also, they consume the same power as standard bulbs and therefore would not get any hotter." Normal H4 bulbs are 60/55w, they draw almost twice the power, and generate almost twice the heat, is your wiring/headlight housing up to it?
Your money, your car, your risk!

Re: HID headlights? Anyone?
That's correct. You cannot legally install HID kits into non HID lights. The heat generated by the bulbs is much greater than the lens was designed for and can be hazardous.EssDub wrote:If you have HID's on yours, they'll have a large ballast resistor pack hiding around somewhere.
