Does anyone have any advice on reading ecu codes on a MRs.
Is there a reader I can purchase?

I thought MRs used a OBDII port for assessment of engine faults. This works differently than our AW/SW dinasour systems which use Morse Code.

I think you are right.

So buy a Bluetooth or wifi OBDII dongle to connect to a phone, tablet or laptop to check and clear codes.

Ha ha AWesome, didn't know that. I'll stick with my paper clip. I can count to 7 just fine. :P

Just as well MRS owners today are likely to already own a cell phone / tablet / laptop eh Alan? I remember that a new laptop could easily cost as much as $7000 in the late 90's and early 2000's - that's one hell of an expensive paper clip! :shock: :lol:

Just be careful with buying really cheap ones as they are hit and miss on which ones work.

There are very few aftermarket readers that can correctly identify SMT/CANbus codes. You will need a Techstream to get a better idea on those ones, in most cases.

Thanks guys.
I tried several of the OBD2 scanners and none worked.
MRS use OBD1 and Ive bought a more expensive scanner that works and reads OBD1 & 2.

OBD1 at least on most Toyotas is in the engine bay and a rectangle shaped plug but OBDII is in the cabin and a trapezoidal shape. Essdub has tons of ZZW30 experience. Take his advice.
