Is that Ad08r? I thought they don't come in our tyre size.

The tires are Ad08R in 195/50/15 but also available in 205/50.
Not sure what sizes you're running Kevin? 16"s?
These come in 205/45/16 as well.

If anyone is after new tires give a call to Richard at Tyrepower North Shore, he's had best prices on a number of different tires compared to several other major retailers I contacted.

The manufacture date on my new tires is just a few months old and they are made in Japan.
Sometimes getting good prices on tires means they're a couple of years old or from a secondary manufacturer, but not these

The Ad08R are an upgrade on the T1R's I had so probably means my wheel alignment is going to feel a bit off now (as it was set for T1R's). We'll see...

yeah I have 16" front and back which makes it a pain to get the right stagger with same tyres front and back. Do you think the increase front grip will make you over steer more?

I've fiddled with the alignment a few times on previous tires until I got it to behave neutrally under acceleration on the long sweeper at Hampton's (which was my testing ground) so yeah I'm pretty sure the increased front grip from the Ad08R's is going to require fine tuning the front camber to achieve the same result.
Not sure if it will be noticeable on the street, other than perhaps by having a more confident turn-in?

The wheel/tire choices for the MR-S available locally are quite poor unfortunately.
Maintaining double stagger with low profile tires is very tricky unless you mix brands. And if you go with a square setup then you need the rear wheels to have smaller offset by 5-10mm which is impossible to find.
I've been wrecking my head over this for a while now lol

I'm talking to the Yokohama NZ distributor about possibly importing size/s that are not readily available locally but Yokohama does make them.

My wheels are quite wide, 7" front and 8" rear. However I prefer more grippy tyres rather than going wider. Ideally I would like 195/50 16 front and 215/45 16 rear. Alternatively 205/45 16 is a common size for rears, but then I would want an uncommon 185/50 16 front to maintain the stagger. Very tricky, especially in nz with limited ranges.

OK, get a load of this... I ordered some Ad08R's in 215/45/16 for the rears on my car and they are going to MAKE them for me
They place the production order with the factory and it gets here with the next shipping of tires destined for NZ. ETA late January - which is not too bad considering the Xmas/NY close down period.

Yokohama doesn't make Ad08R in 195/50/16, at least not for the Oceania market but I suppose you could also go with 205/45 and 225/45?
They would not have as much stretch on your wheels as 195 and 215 would, and they would have a few mm higher sidewall, but provided the sidewall is stiff enough I reckon it could be a good combo?


My ideal combo would be 15x8F w 225/45 and 15x9R w 245/40 but that would mean importing tires each time I need a set, and shipping costs + GST ends up being a killer

The caliper's plunger looks like it needs a bit of real fine wet-and-dry treatment.

Done that today - some polishing paste was all that was needed on the piston to bring it back to mirror shine, the rust in the pic above is actually a transfer from the caliper body and not from the piston itself
Done both rear calipers with all new seals and EBC Yellow brake pads and a new brake fluid.

I hope it's good fluid Ivor? The TRD stuff from Toyota is good, it's the same as Motul RBF 600. You don't want any Repco kinda rubbish on track eh mate. Made that mistake once, many years ago...

Dunno about the weather tomorrow mate but if it fines up in the afternoon I might have to go for a wee blat myself.

Made a header/turbo/downpipe heatshield today.
This stuff is expensive. I made three cardboard templates before I was confident to cut the material.
