Hardtop for 2001 spyder
Can anyone help me with where I would be able to find a hardtop for my mr-s, for a reasonable price? And what material is best for a softtop, thanks

Re: Hardtop for 2001 spyder
OE hardtop "for a reasonable price" - nowhere.
It would cost you $4k to import one.
Unless you happen to stumble across someone who doesn't know what they're selling.
Aftermarket, there's someone in NZ (was it on trademe?) who offers a fiberglass replica, that needs glass/paint/liner - that's somewhat more affordable than the OE but would be a lot of work.
Softop - you can search on the forum here for a thread about it - and a few options that are available.

Thanks for the response m8. I've had bad experience with soft tops, so that's why I'm trying to stay away from them
I guess I need to get it imported

A Hardtop for an MR-S I guess you can stand in line. These are rarer than rockiong horse droppings and there are many who want one. There is one left in NZ of the original toyota ones and the guy who has it wants 3500 for it with no windows in or anything else. There was a guy making GRP ones who had a racecar and moulds but i havnt heard from him in ages.
As Ivor says importing them is hughely expensive https://midshipgarage.com/products/oem- ... 0674367512

So really getting one is damn near impossible

Kind of crazy, but probably easier to sell your car and import another one form Japan with a hardtop.

Not crazy idea at all and would probably end up being cheaper than getting a good hardtop and all the hardware.
Either import another car with a hardtop and swap the hardtop with your soft top and sell it, or just import a whole new car with soft top and sell current car.

Thanks for the responses guys, I will have to look into all the options and make a decision, and maybe even end up importing a whole different car xD.

Re: Hardtop for 2001 spyder
i was looking for a hardtop x 2, but there are rare and expensive,
So i've decided to make my own HardTop,
Same shape as OEM but goes on top of the soft top,
this avoids having to find door and window seals and tie down brackets.
i was thinking of 3 different Version, Plastic (probibley ABS), Fiberglass, Aluminum

Guys
There are 3 jigs already made in NZ . Everyone wants one for nothing . Check out https://www.facebook.com/groups/1657645 ... nt_mention

Quote "the jig is now owned by the guy who currently owns the car. The mould was modified so the rear window is a flat rectangle. I have one that I brought from the current owner for my race car, not sure now much you would need to do to get it to road car standard "
May be an image of car" End quote
I know where 2 other moulds are too Theres over 100 posts on this subject and everyone wants one for a few hundred dollars . Well thats about as likely to happen as a one legged man winning an arse kicking competiton. The rear windoes are 450 dollars and the fitting kits are 800 so makes the 1200 us one on the forum look cheap as it is legal and comes with everything

Re: Hardtop for 2001 spyder
sadly have to say I agree, was looking at a Blue manual 2002 Spyder from Japan with the OEM blue hardtop in great condition, did the math and It would have fully been cheaper and easier for me to simply import it and sell my one with the soft top here in NZ, sadly didn't end up doing it and it has since been sold. crazy to think though

Re: Hardtop for 2001 spyder
Plastic (probibley ABS) = $750nzd
Fiberglass = $950nzd
Aluminum = $1500nzd
Carbon fiber = $1800nzd
Titanium = $4500nzd
I have a spare MR-S for design mockups and fitment chicking
large scale 3D scanner and No i can't use existing molds,
this is going to be a 5 piece design, with 3 window options
(No window, Small window, oem window),
so it can be a easy and light to ship around the world.
Kit set Design,
You put it together yourself and paint it to your colour.

Re: Hardtop for 2001 spyder
Hi there, bit late but i have a OEM Hardtop + Mounting Hardware for a spyder, off a 2002 for sale. Has heated rear window. Its off a blue car but the clear coat is gone and would need repainting. Looking for around $3500 if anyone is interested.
