Dyno consumables!

Empty cans of oil, 4x damaged ignition coils and an empty OEM oil filter box.

There was a point there where things didn't look so good.
But after going for a decent drive on some better roads I've found this swap totally worth it! Even on low boost, it's so responsive vs the GEN2 3SGE.

When trying to install the original knock sensor I damaged it due to only having a shallow 27mm socket. The sensor I have has a taller plastic section so the socket didn't fit well and I broke the end off. I did a silly and glued it back together thinking it would be fine. Eventually it failed so I have a good replacement from another GEN4 3SGTE so I believe this will work based on the fact the cap has come off other original meaning no closed circuit for the sensor system. I wonder if it will go any better now.

A broken knock sensor giving me issues. I broke it when trying to install it with the wrong tools. I've replaced it with a known good one, still to take it for a test drive. Hopefully that's the end of my ECU/EFI related issues.

A massive thanks to a good mate for sending me a replacement knock sensor! Now it stopped throwing ECU codes and drives so much better! Boosts to 8-9psi in 3rd instead of the 6psi it used to. It still settles to 6psi in 4th. Such a transformation to how it use to be. So happy and excited to drive the MR2 now!

It's so good to be on the other side of this build! Don't get me wrong, the whole thing has been so much fun and excitement from acquiring the MR2 back in 2008, buying the Caldina GTT in 2020 and now having this swap 99% completed in 2024.

To be at this point in the build is a good feeling. The ECU isn't throwing codes, the teething issues seem to be gone and it just drives so well! So much better than the 3SGE in almost every way.

GEN4 3SGTE swapped SW20 MR2 G-LIMITED cold start.
3" downpipe OEM B pipe TRD 3SGTE muffler
CT15b turbo with 3" intake and custom airbox with TRD JZA80 Supra air filter

These are the 4 last dyno runs before the failed ignition coil stopped us doing anymore. You can see the red line drops power due to the misfire and the AFRs are going rich because of it.

New engine lid rain guard screws. I only put in a few as I wasn't sure how many holes were still good. Turns out most are OK except 2 of them.
