hah, the only spinning was when I accidently chirped the tires coming out of the garage. Too much torque + heavy duty clutch + no idea where the clutch bites

Re: Alex's GRW11
I'm usurping Alex' thread here perhaps but I'm so hanging out to see yours back on the road too Malcolm.
Here's a wee vid of the occasion folks, Alex' beastie poking its nose out of the shed (once it's finished uploading to youtube in about an hour or so).
As I said it was raining so Alex was taking it very carefully. I can hardly wait to see how it goes in the dry if he plants his boot...
Of course he'll want to get it certed etc first cos it's a bit of a hike from his place to anywhere that you could try out the acceleration without the perils of suburbia. Unlike my place where it's 5 minutes away.
I have to say in light of how effortlessly that V6 pushes the AW along, it will be the least stressed engine ever fitted to one. Even when you're accelerating as fast as a Ferrari, which I'm sure it will do in the dry. Though it's gonna need pretty good tyres... I'm expecting it to be rock solid reliable that's for real. Mind you, I'd hate to try changing the spark plugs, unless Alex does some clever engineering...!
If this thing turns out to be as fast as B00STN, as nimble as Stripe and as reliable as my old 186... well I won't be at all surprised.
Anyway, the historic (if very restrained) event, captured for you, the MR2 crew...
Here's to its first club run! And first track day! I can hardly wait!
What's the plate gonna be Alex? V6AW11 or just AWSOME...?

100+ MR2OCNZ runs and counting... When going hard, good rubber's your best protection against unwanted accidents. Buy good tyres!
When you're nearing the end of the drag-strip and you have no 'chute, you may as well keep your foot to the floor... Live life. There ain't no second pass.

Re: Alex's GRW11
Ha.. forgot about this thread.
It's been on the road for about 10 months or so. Runs well.. just needs a few minor things done like painting the engine lid & bay etc (or the whole car!). Could also use a less aggressive final drive and higher rev limiter too. Plus of course some work so that I can actually drive it while wearing a helmet (being 6'6 is not ideal when you like small Japanese sports cars!)
But of course, I've once again managed to get distracted with another project:
No head room issues with this one!

And no Brakes from the looks LOL
Boosted cars are like hot women.
A little edgy, every guy wants one,
some guys can't handle them,
and if you throw a little alcohol in them they'll rock your world.

St185 fronts, sw20 rears with aw11b booster and 1 inch hilux booster. Works well - even the certifier said he was surprised how balanced it was.*84vvt wrote:And no Brakes from the looks LOL

Re: Alex's GRW11
Using sw20 turbo gen3 lsd gearbox with matching axles, but fitted with celica outer CVs. If I was doing it again, I would probably get a set of sw20 hubs modified to fit the aw11 hub carriers so that I can run full sw20 axles.
