Clutch didnt disengage so drove it home matching the engine speed
other minor issues was some flat spots and low power at higher rpms, this was fixed by new spark plugs and by refitting the oem bov as the aftermarket one had a serious leak which was upsetting the afm.

Fitted a new slave cylinder as the old one was leaking. Clutch now worked but not if it was depressed fully which resulted in a nasty whirring noise.
My boss at work had a listen and said definitely a clutch problem. so out it came
glad i was able to use the hoist at work as it made it alot easier

i replaced that and gave the whole car a good going over so its up to spec.
(quick tip) if your struggling the bleed the mr2 clutch by yourself crack the bleeder loose on the slave and remove the little dust cap from the master cylinder cap you can carefully pressure bleed the system using a compressed air gun (very very low pressure) to force new fluid through. makes it a quick 5min job by yourself

Heres the car as it stands now. stickers are only on as a joke btw im hoping to paint it in a couple months once it warms up a bit lol

and one i took today proving a mr2 can be a delivery truck (was for a very short couple k drive in a 50kph zone

from here my plans are to make it a road legal track car. it is completely stock gen1 turbo apart from gen3 sway bars. id like to strip out and get some nice racing rims/tyres for it and then after some track time begin more serious engine/handling modifications.

Has anyone had any experience with for car vinyling btw? as ive been considering it to make it look a bit nicer during winter

eek spotted a couple drops of coolant around this gasket tonight. turns into to broken bolts that are seized solid in

Tomorrow im gonna fire up the gas welder and heat the damaged studs up so hopefully they come out alright. then a couple helicoil and itll be better than you.

why would you need Helicoils if your not drilling them out? Won't the Ali' shrink back to normal size when it cools? Forgive me if i'm missing something here

if the threads were damaged i could drill them out and then fit helicoils to keep the orginal thread/bolt size. i was expecting to because there appeared to be alor of corrosion around one bolt

as it turned out both broken bolts came out cleanly with a good soaking of Rost Off and some heat so no need to helicoil the holes,
i just forgot to take a picture of the finished job

quick update started stripping interior to lighten it up a little bit.
plus sourced a extra bonnet, the plan being to cut the front firewall out and direct radiator air up through a slit in the bonnet and over the windscreen. \
this will happen as soon i save up some $$$ for certification. ill also put my koni adjustable in at this time

have some Yokohama semi slicks coming up from Christchurch, fingers crossed they arrive before my 1st track day on the 13th

ive also swapped from the leather seats to gen 3 cloth seats. but im on the look out for some quality bucket seats as ive had bolt on adapter rails tucked away for a couple months now

What spyderballer fails to mention is me and a friend stripped the interior for him outside, while he was doing the sump seal / oil change on my car in the garage.
Never seen an oil change take so long
Funny enough when we finished so had he


Should say that this is only the start, still have alot more to strip out.
Had a go at removing the sound deading material on the floor with a scraper/hammer. Done 1/2 of the drivers side. While removing it isn't very hard, it takes ages so might be something
that we chip away at

Awesome first trackday at Hampton Downs

Super happy with the mr2. it was setup with re002"s on the front and Yokohama advans 032 on the rear and toyota pads front lucas rear.

Mr2 handled nicely with me only letting it down once with a silly spin while trying to catch a Gen 3 turbo mr2.

But was great to push the car a bit and learn its limits and how it responds, id also fitted some KW bucket seats/rails to the car which helped in the corners. there a little flexible in the head area but i cant complain for the price i paid for them (cheap )

Hey maybe try a big gnarly wire brush wheel on an angle grinder for stripping that sound deadening? Just be sure to wear protective goggles cos you don't need a wire bristle in the eyeball (trust me on this one).
