On my first sw20 with ct20b I had to run 13psi because we only had 98 and the knock sensor would chime in every now and again on anything higher. With 98, 1 bar was no problem.
Huh?
Never had an issue running 17psi on 95 octane with CT20. If the knock sensor is detecting a problem then you have a problem.

Over 2 years ago I started the search for more power. 2 years ago I got the motor. About 1.5 years ago I got the car. And today it got a cert plate and a wof. A massive thanks to all those who have helped along the way, you know who you are. Obviously its not finished but when can you truly say a car is? Plenty more ideas and plans for it and I'm sure there's more stuff I haven't even thought of yet.

Took it to gdii's we got the underpanels on for stone protection, black siloconed the targas for leak prevention and got some more air out of the clutch line. Clutch now a bit less of a switch and more of a progressive pedal which helps. Also gave it a clean. Makes the car a little more refined and enjoyable!

Manfield. Not a success. Overheated on first outing, came straight in and it drunk a little too much water. I guessed perhaps it was an air bubble from not being bled. Let it cool and went back out. Wasn't holding boost at all so came back in. Tightened up all the hose clamps and went for another run. Finally started getting some nice boosting and all of a sudden the temp gauge raised to the roof, as did the speedo. Started slowing and put my heater on full, for it to start jerking and came to a stop. Then it kept launching forward as it was in gear. Put it in N and the starter motor was trying it's best to turn the car on even though the key was now out and in my hand... disconnected the battery to fix that issue. And that is where it's at right now.
Bit disappointing as was meant to be it's first mr2 run tomorrow, and having just recently passed it's cert/wof and fixed the clutch and turbo etc...
I hope I haven't cooked anything. It was odd how much water it actually needed. Can't figure out whether there's a leak or blown HG before fixing the electronics. Which at this point I don't even feel like doing. Back to sitting in the driveway it goes...

Check that all the grounds in the engine bay are connected and secure. Also check the grounds in the boot, and the one behind the passenger seat below the window.
As for the temp gauge rising and throwing out coolant, it does sound like a blown head gasket. Although an engine that hasn't been bled properly can show the same problems. Putting the heater on hot makes it worse, as the air that was in it is now preventing the coolant from circulating because the level isn't high enough in the engine block. I know because this happened to me. Do a proper bleed first before troubleshooting the overheating.

It seemed to need constant small topping up since we've had it running, although when it overheated the first time it needed a decent amount more than usual. So I'm hoping I've done no permanent damage. Yeah definitely a proper bleed but got to get it running first. If it'll run. It was smoking when it first overheated so something has melted.
